Caretaker Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour on Wednesday held phone talks with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem on the latest developments of the Syrian crisis and the outcome of the top Syrian diplomat's talks in Moscow, Lebanon's National News Agency reported.
According to NNA, the phone conversation also tackled the Russian initiative on Damascus' chemical stockpiles, which Muallem hailed and said it "unveiled the real stances of world powers."
The two ministers discussed the developments on the ground in war-torn Syria, with Muallem confirming that the Syrian army "is continuing to advance on the ground and the morale of Syrian citizens in very high."
For his part, Mansour stressed the "importance" of Moscow's initiative, reiterating that "a political solution and dialogue are the only means to end the Syrian crisis.”
The United States and France reaffirmed Wednesday that they are determined to act militarily against Damascus should diplomatic efforts fail to place Syria's chemical arsenal under international control, on the eve of a key American-Russian meeting in Geneva.
