How many MPs will name Mikati as new PM?
Between 59 to 61 MPs will name caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati in the binding parliamentary consultations that will be held on Thursday in Baabda, sources said.
The sources told al-Joumhouriah newspaper, in remarks published Monday, that the number of the MPs who will name Mikati might increase, exceeding the parliamentary majority.
The latest government, led by Mikati, has only been in place since September 2021 after a 13-month vacuum.
It was billed a mostly technocratic government tasked with guiding Lebanon to recovery, but each minister was endorsed by one of Lebanon's perennial heavyweights.
