Musician Charged After Dog Mauls Five Police

A musician from east London will appear on court on Friday after a pit bull-type dog attacked five policemen, three of whom remain in hospital.

Pierre Robinson, 25, will appear in Thames Magistrates Court to face charges under the Dangerous Dogs Act following the incident outside his home in Albert Square, Stratford, in Newhamborough..

Among the four charges, Robinson is accused of possessing a pit bull dog, which is illegal under the act, and of allowing it to be "dangerously out of control" when it injured five people.

One police officer may need skin grafts after Thursday's attack, following which the dog was shot dead.

Robinson is also charged with kidnapping a man and causing grievous bodily harm with intent, in connection with an alleged incident on March 14 in Newham, police said.

Three policemen were kept in hospital overnight and are now said to be in a stable condition. All five police suffered leg and hand wounds.

Ownership of pit bull terriers was banned in Britain in 1991 following a spate of attacks by dangerous dogs.
