Authorities Release Two Activists Detained for Pro-Syrian Revolution Graffiti in Beirut
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةTwo young Lebanese men who have been detained for daubing graffiti on Beirut walls in support of the uprising in neighboring Syria were released, media reports said on Saturday.
Fadi Tawfiq, a writer and rights activist, told Agence France Presse Ali Fakhri and Khodr Salameh were detained on Friday night for painting the flag used by rebels in Syria and "The revolution continues" in a district considered supportive of the Damascus regime.
The prosecutor general called for an investigation into whether the incident amounted to "incitement to cause trouble and division," said their lawyer, Adel Hamouni.
He said the charges could result in a fine for damage to public property but feared the affair could turn more serious if it was politicized.
Dozens of supporters held a sit-in protest outside the police station where the men were being held and wrote on the ground: "The bloggers are in prison and the thieves are outside."
A graffiti war has been waged on the walls of the Lebanese capital for months between the camps supporting the opposition in Syria and backers of President Bashar Assad.
Syria has played a dominant role in Lebanon since its 1975-1990 civil war and the Syrian-backed Shiite movement Hizbullah is currently the main partner in the unity government in Beirut.
Arrest them and all others that write graffiti anywhere and about anything in Lebanon. The country is already looking like crap. And while at it, remove all other bill boards and posters of our glorious leaders and leaders of their puppeteers (Iranians, Syrians, Qataris, Saudis, does not matter...all of them. It was a paradise and now it has become a ghetto.... thanks to the Lebanese people, Islamic resistance, Palestinian refugees and our great neighbor Syria. Do we still have the statue of the great Hafez Assad somewhere in the South? If so take it down while at it.
Does anyone know where I can download 'Sesame Street' in Arabic (عالم سمسم) for my niece? I looked on the torrents... no seeders :-/ anyone's advice would be greatly appreciated.
So wait people die in hospitals because of bad hygienic standards but they are busy investigating if this consitute "incitement to cause trouble and division".
If it was pro-Hezz, or pro-ASSad they would not have been arrested.
The drug lab guys were caught in process of making drugs, nothing happened to them. We all know why. Hizb-hashish runs the show.
They should of hung them by the Balls. They remind me of the Palestinians during the late 60's early 70's before the Civil War. These guys are causing material damage and are creating a toxic environment in a country that is not short of catastrophe and tension.
