Jordan King Congratulates Mursi on Egypt 'Trust'
Jordan's King Abdullah II on Monday congratulated Mohammed Mursi "for winning the people's trust" following his victory in Egypt's presidential election, a palace statement said.
"We congratulate you for winning the people's trust. We wish Egypt all progress and prosperity," the king told Mursi, saying Amman is "keen to enhance relations" with Cairo.
Mursi is Egypt's first president since the uprising that toppled veteran strongman Hosni Mubarak last year.
The Muslim Brotherhood member won 51.73 percent of the vote, defeating Ahmed Shafiq, who was Mubarak's last prime minister.
The Jordanian government on Sunday saluted the "success of the electoral process," welcoming "the choice of the fraternal Egyptian people to continue on the democratic path" and hoping for the "consolidation of security and stability" in Egypt.
