Syria's military has used fighter jets to fire on Aleppo, the country's second city, the U.N. Supervision Mission in Syria (UNSMIS) spokeswoman told Agence France Presse on Wednesday.

"Yesterday they (U.N. observers) saw firing from a fighter aircraft" on Aleppo, said Sausan Ghosheh. "They are jets."

The U.N. observers, deployed in Syria to monitor a U.N.-Arab League-brokered truce that never took hold, have witnessed heavy fighting in Aleppo, Ghosheh told Agence France Presse.

"We are deeply concerned about the heavy fighting in Aleppo. The last 72 hours saw a significant increase in the level of violence in the southeast neighborhoods of Aleppo, around Salaheddin area."

Fighting between regime forces and rebels has raged in Aleppo, Syria's commercial hub, since July 20.

They should use their jets and pound the shit out of those Islamist Terrorists who have forced 80,000 Christians out of their homes. The UN and the West should be ashamed of themselves. God Bless Russia!

How dare they use fighter jets?!?!?
Come on, they are in a difficult situation and will resort to air power. The US/NATO forces used it over Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and still use it everyday, Russia used it over Chechnya and Georgia, Saudi Arabia used jets over Yemen and so on.

But militarily, I don't think that jets will succeed in Syria since the FSA has no major military bases and nor heavy weapons concentrations etc. Helicopters are the better option here but the Syrian regime may be heaving trouble with keeping all the chopper force flying probably due to unexpected constant use and flying hours (something they were not ready for, and shortage of spares due to some delays in deliveries from Russia so they are resorting to fighter jets.

Those jets visible on the image above and several others during the last day seem to bee chech buil Aero L-39 Albatros trainer aircraft. Those are capable to carry a very light ordnance load, but fall not into the category of "real" combat aircraft.
