France: All Sides in Lebanon Must Adhere to Baabda Declaration

French Foreign Ministry spokesman Philippe Lalliot voiced his country's support for the Lebanese government's policy of disassociation from regional developments, reported the daily An Nahar Sunday.

He told the daily that all Lebanese powers must respect the Baabda Declaration that was sponsored by President Michel Suleiman and which calls for sides to adhere to the disassociation policy.

France has repeatedly stressed the need for Lebanon to steer away from the Syrian crisis and all Lebanese powers must work to achieve that goal, he added.

France supports the efforts of Lebanese authorities in their determination to ease internal tensions, Lalliot continued.

Moreover, he said that his country is committed to completing its mission in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.

This force is essential at this time given the regional tensions, the French Foreign Ministry spokesman noted to the daily.

UNIFIL is still playing a central role despite the difficulties it is facing in maintaining stability in Lebanon, he said.

The Baabda Declaration, approved in June, stipulates that Lebanon should commit to the policy of disassociation to avoid the spread of the unrest in Syria to Lebanese territory.

Violence from Syria has however spilled over into Lebanese border areas with villages in those regions coming under shelling of regime forces.

Karim - these are patently unsupported allegations. I will not say untrue since neither of us can know for sure. However the weight of evidence suggests that (1) if Oqab is involved in managing one of the arm channels, the arms are being funneled to moderate elements in FSA since journalists reported complaints by commanders on the ground that he is the primary reason they are not getting arms, (2) the number of lebanese involved in fighting on the side of the FSA is very small and this is reflected in the very small number of death reported (most died in a single incident), (3) reports points to increasing levels of friction and distrust between mainstream FSA brigades and al-nusra and other jihadist groups. So juxtaposing FSA and al-Qaeda together is dishonest.

this cabinet of m8 is the one not abiding by the baabda declaration :)
they started a few days after this declaration by sending the drone over Israel under the orders of iran.

The statement here is concerning the war in syria...but anyways, if Israel is allowed to send jets daily into Lebanon why the hell can we not send a drone to collect some intelligence as well ???

You should ask your masters in Israel to stop smuggling into our borders first if you're so concerned about them.

this article is about the baabda declaration and it applies to all bordering countries.
Israel and the Syrian regime might be your master but not mine.
