U.S. actor Edward Furlong, whose credits range from "Terminator 2" (1991) to 2011 hit "The Green Hornet," was charged Tuesday with assaulting his girlfriend, prosecutors said.

The 35-year-old is also accused of threatening her if she went to the police, and could face up to four years behind bars if convicted, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said.

The actor, who had already faced two battery charges involving the same woman, allegedly violated a restraining order by going to the woman's West Hollywood home and assaulting her last month.

Furlong also allegedly damaged laptop and photo equipment. He was charged with dissuading a witness by force or threat, assault, vandalism and disobeying a domestic restraining order.

The actor, who also appeared in "Little Odessa" in 1994 and "American History X" in 1998, has pleaded not guilty, said Deputy District Attorney Linda Loftfield.

The two previous charges, stemming from incidents in November last year and January this year, have been included in the new case. He is due to return to court on July 1.
