Progressive Socialist Party leader ex-MP Walid Jumblat on Monday criticized retired servicemen who tried to storm the Grand Serail during a cabinet session.

“Is it reasonable when a part of the state watches another part storming the Grand Serail? Is it reasonable to reach this extent of chaos only because it is required to reassess Measure No. 3 in order to curb spending?” Jumblat asked in a tweet.

The Cabinet called for the resignation of Beshara al-Asmar, the chief of General Confederation of Lebanese Workers against the backdrop of his leaked insulting remarks about ex-patriarch Beshara al-Rahi, the National News Agency reported on Monday.

“Amid this huge and scary confrontation between the U.S. and the Islamic Republic, and amid the Israeli incitement to warm, we hope no one in the Arab world will get involved, because war will only produce vast devastation,” Jumblat tweeted.

The head of the Finance Parliamentary Committee MP Ibrahim Kanaan stressed Sunday that a late state budget is not a real budget.

“A budget that is not approved on time is not a budget but rather a de facto situation and the 2019 state budget is eight months late from its constitutional deadline and it should have been passed before the fiscal year’s end so that we implement it,” Kanaan said in an interview with Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3).

Free Patriotic Movement chief MP Jebran Bassil on Sunday visited the seat of the Maronite church in Bkirki at the head of a Strong Lebanon bloc and FPM delegation, in the wake of a storm of condemnation sparked by leaked remarks against revered late ex-patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir.

“We stand by Bkirki in its national message,” Bassil said, stressing that “this message cannot be touched and this message will remain even after the departure of Bkirki’s great figures.”

A man was injured when a personal dispute accompanied by gunfire erupted at the southern Palestinian refugee camp of Ain el-Hilweh in Sidon, the National News Agency reported on Saturday.
