The Russian army is intensifying its attacks in eastern Ukraine, military authorities said Tuesday, even as the Kremlin's forces try to check a stunning weeklong incursion into Russia by Kyiv's troops.
Ukraine's General Staff said Tuesday that over the previous 24 hours Russian troops launched 52 assaults in the area of Pokrovsk, a town in Ukraine's Donetsk region that is close to the front line. That's roughly double the number of daily attacks there a week ago.

Ukraine said Tuesday it was not interested in "taking over" territory it had captured during its cross-border incursion into Russia's Kursk region, calling Ukrainian operations there "absolutely legitimate".
"Ukraine is not interested in taking over the territory of the Kursk region ... These Ukrainian actions are absolutely legitimate," Ukrainian foreign ministry spokesperson Georgiy Tykhy told a press conference.

The FBI is investigating allegations that sensitive documents from Donald Trump's presidential campaign were stolen in a cyber intrusion, as well as attempts to gain access to Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign, days after the Trump campaign declared it had been hacked by Iran.
The FBI released a brief statement on the Trump matter reading, "We can confirm the FBI is investigating this matter."

Iran on Tuesday rejected Western calls to stand down its threat to retaliate against Israel for the killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran late last month.
"The declaration by France, Germany and Britain, which raised no objection to the international crimes of the Zionist regime, brazenly asks Iran to take no deterrent action against a regime which has violated its sovereignty and territorial integrity," foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said in a statement.
