Lebanon, Cyprus start border demarcation talks in Baabda
A Cypriot delegation met Friday with President Michel Aoun over the maritime border demarcation between Lebanon and Cyprus, in the presence of Deputy Speaker Elias Bou Saab.
After the maritime border deal with Israel, Lebanon reached out to Syria and Cyprus to start direct negotiations over their northern and western maritime borders.
"Dealing with Cyprus is not like dealing with an enemy state," Bou Saab stated, after the meeting. "This speeds up the work," he added.
Bou Saab said that from now on Minister of Public Works & Transport Ali Hamiyeh and Minister of Energy Walid Fayyad will follow up on the demarcation with Cyprus.
Hamiyeh will meet, later today, with the Cypriot delegation to resume the talks.
The Cypriot presidential envoy said he feels at home in Lebanon, lauding the friendly ties between the two countries.
"There is no problem that cannot be resolved between Lebanon and Cyprus, and the demarcation issue is not that difficult," he said.
Bou Saab stressed the two sides' keenness on finalizing the demarcation deal.
He added that Lebanon is also awaiting an appointment from Syria, negating any disagreement between the two neighboring countries.
"The call between President Aoun and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was very positive," Bou Saab said. "And time will prove that there will be cooperation between Syria and Lebanon."
Hizb & FPM political mafia after bankrupting the country, destroying Lebanon's economy and institutions, and evaporating people's lifetime savings; now have turn to gas reserves to steal it from future generations and make sure our kids stay in hell a beggar nation with no hope or dignity. Whereas there is gas or not there are billions in infrastructure costs that Hizb and FPM, the mother of all corruption and nepotism, can start stealing immediately. This is the new ALiBaba cave about to be emptied by this political mafia to fill their pockets, more cronies appointed to key posts, and build a bigger, brutal and more corrupt prison to ordinary Lebanese just as in Iran. God save Lebanon from this mafia!
How did FPM manage power? Whereas nations pledging to be carbon neutral, FPM & Fayyad’s power plans are full of corruption, depend on Assad grace and expensive imports, and bankrupt/pollute Lebanon. No efforts for renewable despite Lebanon blessed with solar, wind, hydro, and wave power. Saudi/UAE/Masdar have contracts to generate solar power for 2.4 cents a KW? Does Fayyad understand solar is more efficient in high mountains than desert as PV negatively affected by heat? Is he aware of WDRVM, a Syrian firm producing large wind turbines (WT)? Has he considered off-shore WT near Tripoli islands, today’s cheapest form of energy? Hydro & microhydro power? benefit of distributed power and net-metering? Is he aware 20% incentive means 80% from private funds quadrupling power output when lira was strong? Or 4 solar panels provide 30 yrs of free 15,000 KM/year for every EV car? FPM ministry a complete disaster stealing $50 billion while leaving country in darkness!
FPM/Fayyad should get up to speed on Carbon Trade as Lebanon can rightfully earn $billions by reducing fossil energy (see Tesla balance sheet) not to mention reduce pollution and health cost. From the $50 billion wasted on EDL deficits, only $20 billion would have converted Lebanon to fully renewable energy. With EV car revolution, a $4 billion investment in Giga-battery factory, employing thousands would have gradually converted cars to EV, supplied Middle East, and in time provided backbone for energy grid stability. Tunnels financed by tolls from Beirut and Tripoli ports to Bekaa and Akar would take most trucks of roads, reduce energy and crashes, and improve port attractiveness. Monorail from Tripoli to Tyr to connect cities and reduce energy, congestion and pollution. Only $10 Billion for tunnels & monorail. Even lakes from future dams could be covered with PV panels. Still with our mountains, valleys and sea, wind turbines remain cheapest energy source. Unforgivable waste!
Could you just imagine the intense benefits to the whole region if Cyprus, Lebanon, Israel and Egypt could work together and co-operate in exporting the gas from their many fields to Europe, and that is not to mention the great savings in all these countries by having the gas replace the oil and coal in their power stations.
One more corruption: Elias Saab and Jihad ElArab finished constructed a bran new $7 million house for Michel Aoun while most people have lost their lifesavings and can bearly buy food for their family due to Aoun and his Hizb handler policies. In any respected country this is influence peddling and worst form of corruption. All three should be put in prison in we have justice! Sad so many Aoun followers are still blind to the curse Aoun and Bassil have been on Christians first but also on all Lebanon.
