قباني في "عيد التحرير": حذار استفادة اسرائيل من خلافاتنا الداخلية
Read this story in English
It seems a bit strange that no matter what happens (or doesn't) happen in the Middle East, Israel is to blame. Don't you think that it is time after 65 years for the various Arab States to take responsibility for what is going on within their own borders.
phillipo... israel is not directly to blame for everything that happens or doesnt happen in the middle east... but they are either directly or indirectly the cause of most. the 400,000 palestinian refugees in lebanon, who were kicked out of their homes by the creation of israel, caused the 15 year civil war and still today are the cause of hezballah (through their occupation of lebanon until 2000) and their excuse to still be armed because of the occupation of the shebaa farms and ghajar! they daily mock raid, lebanese villages and breaching lebanese sovereign airspace. take the palestinians back, give back the occupied lands and stop the breaches by your war planes and maybe then we will have nothing to complain about.
Firstly why do you say "your (war planes)" I certainly don't own them. I am an outsider looking in, just as it seems you are.
Secondly, according to the UN Israel does not occupy a single square centimetre (or for you inch) of Lebanese territory, Rhajar according to the UN is Syrian territory.
Also according to international law only someone who left his land can be legally called a "refugee", not their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were born in another country (in this case Lebanon). How many people who left in 1948 are still alive? Probably no more than 1% of the number you quote.
Why haven't Lebanon, and for all that matter Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt accepted them, absorbed them and given them all rights, including citizenship, as Israel has done for all the Jewish refugees from the Arab States, or Europe, South America. the US and Australia have done for the children of Arab refugees?
If Israel is an apartheid state, then please explain: How a Muslim is a member of the Supreme Court? How Muslims, Christians, Druze are over 10% of the members of Israels' parliament, Knesset? How is it there are high Arab officers in the Israeli Police Force, the Israeli Army, and the Prison Service? How is it that there is an Arab who is the Director of the Western Galilee Regional Hospital? How is it that there are Arab footballers who have played for the Israeli national team? How is it there there are thousands of Arab lawyers, surgeons, doctors, nurses? None of the above serve only the Arab population of Israel.
Phillipo - may be israel should take responsability and allow the Palestinians to return to their homes.
Firstly a point of order :
I have heard recordings of Arab Civil and Religious leaders in 1948 pleading with the population to leave their homes in order that the Arab Armies can destroy the new State of Israel, and then they can all return to their homes to live in peace. These recordings have never been denied by the Arab leadership.
1. Return to their homes - How many people who left their homes in 1948 are still alive to "return to their homes"?
2. Who will give compensation to all the Jewish refugees from the Arab States who were also forced to leave their homes in 1948 onwards?
I'm sorry old chap but you can't have it in just one direction.
Everyone should be able to return to their homes, lands of they have the deed to prove it. In both directions. Nothing prevents Lebanese Jews in Israel t return to their homes. There's no law in Lebanon forbidding it. And if it was stolen by someone, they can take it to court. Can Palestinians do the same? I highly doubt it.
Qabbani Warns on Liberation Day: Sharp Disputes are in Favor of Israel .................... what is sad is that he had to invoke Israel to give meaning to his speech. I think in a healthy nation the statement "Sharp and uncivilized disputes are disastrous to Lebanon" would have been even more effective.
