Suleiman Postpones Visit to Saudi Arabia
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةPresident Michel Suleiman has postponed a visit he planned to make to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday for talks with top officials, his office announced.
The statement did not set a new date for the visit.
It said Suleiman followed up the security situation in the eastern city of Baalbek and the issue of Lebanese asylum-seekers whose boat sank off Indonesia on Friday.
The president was briefed on the measures taken by the authorities to deal with the two issues, the Baabda palace statement added.
The police chief in the Agrabinta area of Indonesia's Java, where the boat went down, told Agence France Presse on Sunday that the death toll from Friday's accident was now 28, including multiple children -- with many more passengers unaccounted for.
It is not clear whether all of the dead were Lebanese.
The vessel, carrying an estimated 120 asylum-seekers from Lebanon, mainly from the town of Kabiit in Akkar, Jordan and Yemen, sank after being hit by high waves Friday. Survivors said the boat was headed for Australia's Christmas Island. Eighteen of the Lebanese survived the ordeal.
In Baalbek, the Lebanese army carrying out patrols and set up checkpoints on Sunday a day after five people were killed in clashes between Hizbullah and armed men following a dispute in Baalbek’s al-Qalaa marketplace.
Suleiman was expected to discuss with Saudi officials the government crisis in Lebanon and the repercussions of the war in Syria on Lebanon's stability.
the_roar,
Since you have high level insider view to learn the real reason the president cancelled his KSA trip, maybe you can mention to us few REAL LEADERS who should be the next president. Seriously I like to know who in your opinion is worthy of the job (hoping your answer will be different than my expecctation).
Indeed, the_roar.
I'm not sure how well a president he will be, but what I'm sure of is that we need more people like him in parliament and other political bureaus.
I also remember FT saying he's one of the good few.
Southern: Not that I have any respect towards the KSA who interfere and dictate Lebanese politics and same goes to Iran. How can you make your above comment and not mention Iran. How is your above comment not "sectarian"? How would you reconcile or separate true facts or opinions from "sectarian" comments? Is a sectarian comment disrespectful or discriminatory because it relates to or criticizes characteristics of a sect, or because it relates to the sect but said with bad intent? Also, how can someone preach to avoid sectarian behavior while the same person or group he/she supports has a sectarian militia?
Southern: The primary reason why your comments are constantly targeted with responses disputing your position is because you pick and chose, avoid or embrace facts that suit you to make your point. You denounce Wahhabi and Sharia Law (I am with you), but, not only your party supports the Mullahs in Iran, they are Iran's proxy army. If you see Wahhabi/Sharia Law as filth, we don't see the current Iranian style Islam is any better then the Wahhabi or Muslim Bros. It sounds like you denounce or embrace sectarianism when it suits you which will make your arguments flawed until such time you decide to present the true facts and stick with your position no matter what.
funny how narrow M8 minds are... because the president goes to SA means he is taking "orders"? LOL...
it is the function of a president to visit other nations, even visit their enemies... but too difficlt for binary minds to grasp....
.... the roar... it is written that HE postponed his trip!
"President Michel Suleiman has postponed a visit he planned to make to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday for talks with top officials, his office announced."
so i guess you need some sleep to better read next time instead of vomitting your M8 frustrations and hatred....
pityful cat ....
i love M8 interpretations of things to suit their stupidity!
HE postponed meaning HE decided...
then YOU assume saudis told him not to come ! LOL you are inventing things my poor orange juice!
you are beyond pathetic to see things where there is not: it is called paranoia....
oh! and you beleive that any president in the world can decide himself when he will come? it the same for any presidents, but of course your paranoia is so strong you see only what you want to see...
true you are pathetic!
May God bless the freedom and democratic loving Royal family of Saudi Arabia. They get such bad publicity in the news about their Human Rights record and I just can't understand why. Take a look at the democracy they are currently exporting to Syria. Who wouldn't want such freedom.
