Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau interrogated on Saturday two Islamist inmates from Roumieh prison over the smuggling of explosives into bloc B facility.

According to LBCI, inmates Abou al-Tourab and Abou al-Walid were called on Saturday for interrogation.

Media reports said on Friday that the Islamist inmates at Roumieh prison are plotting to carry out a mass breakout from the facility.

There are around 190 Fatah al-Islam prisoners at the prison's bloc B.

On Thursday, ISF thwarted an attempt by a prison guard to smuggle 150 grams of explosive material inside a sandwich that was being delivered to inmate Charbel Shalita, the murderer of Roland Chbeir.

The guard who was detained confessed that Shalita had requested that he obtain the explosives that can be used to heat water.

Shalita was arrested in 2012 after confessing to the murder of his friend Roland Chbeir in October of that year.

Roumieh, the oldest and largest of Lebanon's overcrowded prisons, has witnessed sporadic prison breaks in recent years and escalating riots over the past months as inmates living in poor conditions demand better treatment.

What a shame we have a country, that for so many years we have been saying that we have an overcrowded prison. I mean how many riots and attempted escapes here? How come we can't get this right?

Can't we just shoot everyone from Nahr El Bard that is part of this Fatah El Islam? They don't seem to get it. They keep popping up every year causing problems. We need to send a message to these fanatics.
