Aoun Accuses Miqati of Escaping Oil Drilling Responsibilities

Free Patriotic Movement chief MP Michel Aoun accused Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati on Friday of escaping his responsibilities rather than calling for a cabinet session to approve oil drilling decrees.

Describing Miqati as the “hero” of irresponsibility in oil exploration, Aoun said the caretaker PM “is escaping his responsibility in calling for an oil session and everyone is accusing the other of rejecting such a session.”

He also accused Miqati of not having the ability to resolve “patriotic issues.”

“Is there a decision to dismantle the state,” he wondered ahead of an FPM conclave held at the Deir al-Kalaa country club in Beit Mery.

“Our natural resources should be used for development and not the division of shares. They neither belong to certain people nor to certain sects,” he said.

“We should manage them well to prevent the sale of our land,” he added.

Two decrees are yet to be approved to award tenders for offshore oil and gas exploration. Their approval would designate Lebanon’s 10 offshore blocks for exploration and determine the model for revenue sharing.

Friday's meeting of senior FPM officials and key Change and Reform bloc MPs under Aoun is aimed at reassessing the movement's status and its ties with other parties.

Aoun accused the authorities of paralyzing several draft-laws, such as benefits for the elderly and the import of diesel vehicles.

He appealed to the people to unite with the FPM to fight corruption rather than cry on their ill fate.

“We are not afraid of difficulties but the people should have awareness,” he said.

He urged them not to become bystanders in corruption in the sate “because its continuity is the responsibility of all the people.”

The FPM chief also called for a “sound executive authority which has an interest to serve the public.”

Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam has been trying since April to form a cabinet but he has blamed conditions set by the different parties on the failure to come up with a line-up.

Rejoice Rejoice Rejoice...... God Bless Gen. Aoun for his courage to call a spade a spade. Despite the intentional obstacles put forth by the 10 M14 ministers in the Miqati government, the FPM has been able to cultivate oil and gas off the lebanese shores, improve land and mobile communications, and introduce whatsapp and wechat to the lebanese. Miqati was forced upon the FPM as a Prime Minister and he has proven very difficult to work with when it comes to reform and change. Bless Aoun, the hero of responsibility who has been carrying the troubles of the common citizen on his shoulders. I, roaring-flamethrower, hereby bestow upon the General the title of "Father of the Poor and Oppressed" aka "Abu Lfa2eer".... tatata general.....!

Miqati is too busy catering for the more influx of the Syrian Refugees into Lebanon .
Apparently there is more money to be made at the moment with these illegals than the Oil Exploration! No investment required , no long term returns , & also the benefit of increasing his own Sect tipping the balance of power in his favour as well as others that are aligned with him ( without naming them ) .
All he has to do is nothing but to keep the Cash Flow coming in , just send the President onto a " Begging" spree ........what a shame !
All this for our National interest is going down the drain while our Zionists neighbours syphon off our Land , water , gas & oil ! What a greedy PM ! Even aligning himself with the Palestinians instead of forcing their issue onto the Israelis , 2.5 million Refugees & still counting whilst our citizens are drowning ! Shame , shame , shame to Miqati & his fellow friends !
Signed Wolf !

Thumb dasphinx 11 October 2013, 17:51

His boss Samir Geagea has already outlined a strategy if you are keeping up with the matter at all.

Thumb LEBhasNOhope 11 October 2013, 16:34

Continue arguing amongst yourselves, and the winners will be Cyprus and Israel, who will in the meantime lay the pipeline that will carry their natural gas to Europe, and begin to enjoy the financial advantages.
In the meanwhile Lebanon will just continue with its infighting between politicians and watch their neighbours enjoy the fruits of their common sense.

I don't beg for people to communicate with me. For that I have the British Newspapers.
Why do you always try to ban people from outside the Middle East who want to bring their comments to this site.
The only reason I can think of is that if they disagree with your warped line of thought then they must either be Zionists or Israelis or both.
Guess what there are other people in the world.

No oil for lebanon Until elections are held!!!!!!!

MPs and ministers are all illegitimate, M8 as well as M14 and independents. Today, none of them represent the people.

So Mr aoun and the other thieves should shut it up.

Missing peace 11 October 2013, 18:12

poor aoun... getting senile by the day. isn't he in favor of following laws, rules and constitution or only when it suits hims like a typical M8er?

a caretaker gvt CANNOT take any important decisions! too hard to understand? so if oil bothers you SO much, then vote for a new cabinet! LOL

GOD BLESS THE GENERAL FOR SPEAKING THE TRUTH

Miqati's bitter that he's plot of stealing Tripoli and its port is going too slow. You'll see he'll be begging to sign the 2 decrees once he steals just enough.

GENERAL MICHEL AOUN FOR PRESIDENT!

"PEACE thinks ONLY M8 are "following laws"

another typical M8 comment.... the article is abuout your beloved general... so i am criticizing him and the camp he belongs to... but then like i said M8ers like you need things to be easy and simple so that you can understand...

if i criticize M8 does it make me M14? LOL just like when M8 says if we are against them means we are zionists...

easy and simple minds M8ers have... pity the nation.
