Aoun and Jumblat Ministers in Cabinet Confrontation over Corruption File, Wissam al-Hassan
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةMinisters representing the Change and Reform bloc in the cabinet are gearing up to discuss several controversial issues at government meetings, the first of which will be held on Thursday.
Free Patriotic Movement sources told al-Liwaa daily published Tuesday the ministers believe that they have the upper hand in deciding the major path the cabinet sessions would take including the appointments that it would make to top posts in state institutions.
According to the sources, the ministers representing MP Michel Aoun would not object to the renewal of Central Bank governor Riyad Salameh’s mandate although they preferred to give that post to the current director-general of the finance ministry, Alain Biffani.
But they would insist on the need for balanced sectarian representations at state institutions, the sources told al-Liwaa.
The Change and Reform bloc ministers would most probably seek to open the file of corruption although this could lead to a confrontation with the ministers representing National Struggle Front leader Walid Jumblat.
According to the sources, another issue that could create tension inside the government is the attempt by some cabinet members, including Hizbullah, to discuss matters linked to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon and Police Intelligence chief Col. Wissam al-Hassan, who according to Hizbullah MP Nawwaf al-Moussawi, has leaked the information on the STL’s arrest warrants.
The warrants were issued against four Hizbullah members.
However, Jumblat praised al-Hassan on Monday saying he had played a positive role in unveiling Mossad networks in Lebanon. He said he rejected attempts to discuss issues aimed at avenging certain personalities.
Walid Jumblat is worried because he is one of those corrupted that should be punished in case the file of corruption is open .
He is also protecting the interests of the Hariris in that government , because he is paid to do so by Hariri and the Saudi that are also implicated in the corruption in Lebanon .
The corruption file will be open , and Walid Jumblat will stay on the side as usual .
GMA should not renew Riad Salamé's term , he should appoint Alain Bifani . We are watching you mon Général .....
When will we stop worrying about hurting other people's feelings and give the priority to accountability over corruption and unlawful actions!
I agree with"ado.australia": cleasing should be the motto for the new government, Lebanon needs it so bad...
"But they would insist on the need for balanced sectarian representations at state institutions,"
i thought they said that they wanted to appoint people according to their competence not their sect...
another lie from the M8...
"The Change and Reform bloc ministers would most probably seek to open the file of corruption"
poor berry he will be investigated too no? and lots of M8 responsible too no? or it is just a low dirty revenge?
This idiot Aoun wants to replace Riyad Salameh who is literally the only Lebanese official who actually knows what he's doing, the whole world praised how well he kept Lebanon out of the world economic recession by staying out of risky adventures in the American housing sector and BS loans...
But of course Aoun wants one of his cronies in there instead of a neutral and extermely competent man like Salameh.
Focus on resolving economic, health and education issues for the people of Lebanon..... Accusations of corruptions of both camps will never end and make things even worse for the average Lebanese!
Poor aoun they are pulling the rug from under him little by little. yalli ma fi bakwi la dino alla yeeno. w every one who followed you is going to regret the day and turn against you . It is all a game to isolate the christians little by little.
michel aoun is youdas sallam masiho. rouh shouf tini wshnok helak bakkir.
you are a big loooooooooooooooooooooooooser. Yalli ma byehsoub la beiid byou aaa an arib. bass the christians will rise again and partition lebanon;
All government employees in Lebanon are corrupt from the garbage collector to the president passing through claoun and his cronies. The people investigating corruption are themselves corrupt. This is a lost battle. We have a long way to go to become remotely civilized. Money is king in this country...morals, honesty, nationalism, improvement, advancement, civility, human rights, etc. are words that mean absolutely nothing and people who utter or go by then become joke material.
