The Beirut-based al-Mayadeen television aired on Wednesday afternoon a video showing the moment the explosion took place in the Beirut neighborhood of Bir Hassan.

The TV channel explained that the video was retrieved from a security camera placed near the scene of the explosion.

The footage shows a water tank blocking the passage in the area, preventing a suicide attacker from reaching the Iranian embassy in Beirut's southern suburbs.

The attacker's car was rigged with 50 kilograms of explosives and detonated 10 meters away, a security official said.

At least 23 people were killed and more than 145 others were wounded in a twin blast that took place on Tuesday morning near the Iranian Embassy in the neighborhood of Bir Hassan in Beirut's southern suburbs.

A security official said the first suicide attacker was on a motorcycle that carried two kilograms of explosives. He blew himself up at the large black main gate of the Iranian mission, damaging the three-story facility.

Less than two minutes later, the second suicide attacker driving a car rigged with 50 kilograms of explosives struck about 10 meters away, the official said.

The al-Qaida-linked Abdullah Azzam Brigades claimed responsibility for the bombings, according to the Twitter page of a cleric linked to the group.

"The Abdullah Azzam brigades - the Hussein bin Ali cells - are behind the attack on the Iranian embassy in Beirut," Sheikh Sirajeddine Zuraiqat, the group's religious guide, posted on Twitter.

The group threatened to continue its activities if Hizbullah does not withdraw its fighters from Syria.

How brainwashed do you have to be to blow yourself up this way? How blinded by hatred can you be? These guys actually believe that their deeds will take them to heaven. They believe they are martyrs for a higher cause. The only thing they are are ignorant hateful pawns who achieved nothing but death.

To all those who chant for war. My dream of Lebanon is not like yours. Go do what you please in your Lebanon and leave mine alone.

Agreed, really not much different than idiots who are told and paid to go fight to free Jerusalem in Syria

Agreed mohammad, agreed.

Sunni takfiris and hizbullah have their dream of Lebanon and I have mine. Mine definitely does not involve fighting wars on other people's soil or anywhere else for that matter.

It's not really uncommon to take the fight to other countries or far away places from home. I'm not trying to defend HA, never defended them here or anywhere else because I believe in a different Lebanon than they do. But fighting abroad is done by the US, France, UK or even smaller nations like Ethiopia, South Africa etc. However, anybody has the right to criticize it just like many do it here.

Thumb FlameCatcher 20 November 2013, 19:16

@sanctify : Your list mentions "countries" fighting abroad to defend their interest. For the moment, Hezbollah is not a Country. They are not fighting for Lebanon. They are fighting for Iran and Syria. What does that tell you about them ? They are terrorists and mercenaries. There is no justification other than that for their involvement in Syria !

Thumb LEBhasNOhope 20 November 2013, 19:20

Sanctify- your statement is true but fighting in Syria has ZERO upside for Lebanon and all the consequences a war brings. Fighting in Syria is for the benefit of HA only! It does not benefit any Lebanese regardless of your affiliation/sect/geography or any other demography you can think of. They continuously try to spin it as if they are doing us a favor when in fact they are risking our lives, the lives of our children and our future for their sole benefit and want us to thank them for it. their absurdity has no limits!!!!

Dear FlameCatcher and Hulk-Smash, I agree with both of you. They don't represent Lebanon and even more, they're not acting to the best interest of Lebanon.

Hassan claimed his Godly party went to Syria to to prevent the Takfiris from coming to Lebanon. What he failed to realise was that, by a result of his action, he turned a few moderate Lebanese Sunni into takfiries. If the shaii of Lebanon do not abandon this Satanic party even the Christians will become Takfiries to fight this plague.
