Saniora Holds 'Good' Meeting with Berri: We Will Continue Consultations on New Cabinet
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةHead of the Mustaqbal bloc MP Fouad Saniora described as “good” a meeting he held on Monday with Speaker Nabih Berri.
He said after the talks: “We had a good and beneficial meeting and we will continue consultations over the formation of a new government.”
For his part, Berri sufficed with reiterating Saniora's remarks.
The Ain el-Tineh meeting was also attended by Berri's aide, caretaker Health Minister Ali Hassan Khalil.
Al-Manar television said on Sunday that Saniora is expected to meet with Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam after meeting Berri.
The speaker had held talks on the government formation process on Sunday with Progressive Socialist Party chief MP Walid Jumblat.
The cabinet formation process was put on the front burner after Berri proposed a revised 8-8-8 government formula and President Michel Suleiman said he would form a so-called neutral cabinet if the political rivals don't agree on an all-embracing government within ten days.
Amid the Lebanese Forces' rejection of Hizbullah's participation in the cabinet, the March 14 camp has reportedly accepted the 8-8-8 formula in principle, but it is awaiting answers pertaining to the ministerial policy statement and the rotation of portfolios among political parties.
Saddely i'm more affraid of my politicians (all not only march 8) than from israel for the petrol and gas, israel can steel 1 bloc from underwater but our dear politician can get all the blocks... If u see how magically they all (again not only march 8 but all) get so rich after getting their ministerial position u wonder....
Anw... Let's hope they will find some solution and that hezbos get out from syria and get back to the homeland...
“We had a good and beneficial meeting and we will continue consultations over the formation of a new government.”
M8ers brains will bug....
Why are the Government formation talks suddenly going so well? Let us face the facts of what the "Council of Ministers" actually is. It is a cash cow for the Lebanese political class. They all milk it as they fight over the ministerial portfolios.
What happened late last year was that the regional and international patrons of this sorry political class told them all that they are losing interest in Lebanon and will take their money elsewhere. That is, away from all of them if they couldn't even agree on who is to steal the money.
Among the Lebanese political class, nothing concentrates the mind more than the real specter of losing one's gravy train, or sugar daddy, and hence all of the "positive talks".
It does not hurt either that the STL has finally commenced. A government, in place, and able to obstruct extradition demands from The Hague is necessary to keep the accused from within the Hezbollah ranks protected. So, Raad came out today very generously stating that Hezbollah is eager to enter a government with M14. Sure, they are.
And M14, for its own reasons, unrelated to shielding HA Defendants before the STL in The Hague, is of course compliant.
Both Flamethrower and Southern, please refrain from insulting your fellow posters. Don't force me to cote you down, please!
I've come to realize that countries don't need traditional governments, only strong institutions. Look how long it's been without a gov, nothing's changed. It's all bs.
