President Michel Suleiman and Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam will take the necessary position if a new government is not formed in the next few days, reported the Kuwaiti daily al-Seyassah on Sunday.

Deputy Prime Minister Samir Moqbel told the daily that the two officials will likely approve the formation of an all-embracing government.

This cabinet will meet the needs of the people and it will tackle pressing issues should a new cabinet not be formed in the next three days, he explained.

The latest efforts to form a new government have yielded an agreement over the formation of a 24-member cabinet which grants eight ministers to each of the March 8 and 14 camps and centrists.

The main obstacle to the formation however is Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun's insistence that his bloc retain the Energy and Telecommunications Ministries portfolios, currently held by caretaker Ministers Jebran Bassil and Nicolas Sehnaoui respectively.

Alternatives to the 8-8-8 government lineup are a de facto cabinet or a neutral one, said Speaker Nabih Berri.

The speaker voiced a readiness to reactivate his efforts to form a government “once he senses that the political factions will exercise leniency in overcoming obstacles,” reported the Kuwaiti daily al-Anba on Sunday.

Berri and Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat are however pressing for the formation of an all-embracing government.

They also pledged to address obstacles presented by Hizbullah and the FPM, revealed al-Anba.

Salam is likely to take a final position on the cabinet formation on Monday or Tuesday at most, it added.

(1).Mr. President, Mr. PM designate, when the Lebanese delegation was recently at the Geneva talks, everyone got surprised by the rift that existed within our delegation. Then to precede it, the mutual infighting between the parties to form a government which they proposed in the first place further goes to confirm that if left alone, these jesters will prolong the agony forever, with new utterly silly conditions following in a long line of idiocies. Your lack of firm decision Mr. President together with Mr. Salam's erring, mean that we the people are now truly lost, disorientated and confused ever more. Please Messirs, if this week the mafia doesn't get its act together, (and we know that they'll keep procrastinating forever), then act like a President and give the order and make that darn government.

(2). Had this been a ship in such troubled waters, with no captain and nothing in the way of strong leadership, it would have sank and all would have died. Yalla Fa5amtak, these are difficult times, and they call for strong men with strong shoulders to make difficult decisions. But difficult decisions are the ones that save nations and people from total annihilation. Every circus show must end Sir, Lebanon is now being led by clowns of all kinds, only a few good men exist still, you are one of them, DO what a strong leader should do. Look at what Bachir Gemayel did, at what Camille Chamoun did, Bshara Khoury, Fouad Shehad and other real men did, follow their example, we've had enough of eunuchs. By their very acts, Lebanon has been castrated into nothingness.

All good point everyone, with, of course, the exception of The_Bore. Phoenix is saying what I have been saying for months and months. It is never easy for a leader to make the hard choice even if it benefits all in the end. With a portion of the LAF torn between sects/tribal beliefs and loyalty to Lebanon, it will be no easy task. But once that step is taken, the "Army" that stands with Lebanon will be UNBEATABLE! The new equation for the "True" government of Lebanon will be: People-Army-Equality. May peace be with Lebanon.
