March 14 Calls for National Reconciliation that Does Not Rule Justice Out
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةThe March 14 General Secretariat called on Wednesday for a national reconciliation that does not overlook the rulings of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, demanding also respecting the Baabda Declaration.
"We call on the Lebanese factions to reconcile on clear grounds based on the constitution and on applicable laws,” the secretariat said in a released statement after its weekly meeting, noting that a real state should confiscate illegal weapons and have a monopoly in using arms.
The statement added: “Reconciliation, however, should not be prioritized over justice or cancel the rulings of the court.”
"And for justice to be fruitful, all the Lebanese must hold onto the Baabda Declaration and drop the army-people-resistance equation. This should be the basis of any ministerial policy statement.”
The conferees expressed: “The Lebanese have a historical responsibility to control the fate of their country amid the deterioration of the situation on all levels. They should draw an end to the demonic cycle of death and violence.”
"Justice is the only tool that ends wars in Lebanon and the STL bears a great responsibility because for the first time in the country's history, criminals are brought to justice to prevent impunity.”
March 14's statement comes amid the ongoing hearing sessions of STL, which is trying four suspects accused of executing the explosion that killed former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri on February 14, 2005.
national reconciliation between religions ? do not think so all Lebanese sects want to live together (extremists are parasites)
political reconciliation starts by respecting the real size of each political group (respecting the choice vote of people)
Patriot. But YOU are the queen of hate. You hate the cedar revolution. You think everyone who isn't syro-stalino-iranian is a cannibal....
If the assassins r punished by death, all Lebanese will be able 2 live 2gether. They should cancel the 1991 amnesty law and try the leaders.
You're such cheap replica of iceman. Unlike u he's funny with his questions... U r boring and not worth answering.
Michael961,
Reconciliation should of taken place as soon as Saad came into government.
A true leader forgets the past and forgives the supposed enemy for the sake of unity of the tiny but proud country LEBANON!
to seek revenge & justice for the killers of his father, and bring down a nation.... For the sake of that is not right.
To politicise this issue is incorrect having the photo of his father behind him and his party at every speech is wrong. If he wants justice step down from leadership and endeavour independently your justice.
I'm a m14 supporter but disagree on there motivation politically in the past.
TOO LITTLE TOO LATE SAAD!
You can see the bargaining going on, can't you? M8 wants "the people-army-resistance" incorporated into the new Ministerial policy statement so as to continue the legitimization of Hezbollah activities which would otherwise be criminal, such as smuggling drugs and weapons, engaging in wars in other countries and all of the other activities of Hezbollah done in furtherance of its statelet maintained on Lebanese soil.
The M14 want to insure continued government support of the STL as well as funding.
So M14 talks about ending the "people-army-resistance" slogan as a spear directed at Hezbollah and of incorporating the Baabda Declaration into the policy statement. This way, Hezbollah has a back down face saving way to save its "resistance" and to get out of Syria by reacknowledging the Baabda Declaration. Hezbollah is really on the defensive here because of its gross miscalculation in delving into the Syria War. Not only are its fighters stuck there, but its unilateral intervention has brought the war home to Hezbollah controlled areas of Lebanon. Again, as was the case in the July 2006 War, M14 will be needed to bail Hezbollah out of trouble. Israel is doing all that it can to save Hezbollah with making war sounds on the border.
