Berri: Including Baabda Declaration in Govt. Statement Will Force Others to Insist on Resistance Equation
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةSpeaker Nabih Berri suggested that the government's policy statement include a reference to Lebanon distancing itself from regional crises instead of mentioning the “Baabda Declaration” as a way to end the current deadlock on the statement discussions, reported al-Joumhouria on Wednesday.
He explained that the March 14 camp's insistence to include the Baabda Declaration in the statement will force the March 8 camp to insist on including the “army-people-resistance” equation that the former rejects.
The ministerial committee tasked with devising a policy statement has so far failed in its mission after five sessions.
The main obstacle lies in the March 14 camp's insistence on including the Declaration in the statement.
“The best way to come up with a statement lies in refraining from mentioning the Declaration, but including its essence,” said the speaker according to al-Joumhouria.
“The policy statement should not refer to the 'army-people-resistance' formula, but stress Lebanon's right to resist Israel,” Berri continued.
The daily revealed that the speaker had tasked his envoy Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil to make this proposal during Tuesday's policy statement discussions.
The committee finished its fifth meeting on Tuesday evening without managing to reach an agreement on the clause related to resistance against Israel.
Discussions will resume at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
In a session that lasted around three hours, Health Minister Wael Abou Faour proposed a formula that “includes the Baabda Declaration and the consensual issues,” but Khalil said “it needed discussion and it is not complete.”
“We need a consensual, balanced statement that resembles the government,” he explained.
"The policy statement should... stress Lebanon's right to resist Israel".
How about Lebanon's right to resist Saudi Arabia, too?
I recently listened to the victory song HA has produced about its yet to come victory in Yabrud. For a while, I thought it was a Lebanese village in in the South still under occupation:) I also watched the heroic acts of the resistance pouring salvos of rockets on this village. Disgusting to say the least.....
The M8 lackeys agreed to the “Baabda Declaration”, but are having a fit about it in the policy statement… pathetic.
Flimflam stop waisting your time with the BS… Assad's boots need polishing and Mystic is nowhere to be found, so get to it :-)
Speakfreely: you are right, and that's why inserting such reference in the declaration won't make any difference.
I actually see Berry's idea as a good compromise. HA refrains from shoving their "people-army-resistance" charade down our throats and M14 refrains from a direct mention of the Baabda declaration, instead mentioning the spirit of it, which is distancing the country from all regional conflicts.
It is a national unity government. Therefore, everybody needs to compromise a little in order to move forward. We can't afford to see every party stubbornly holding to its positions. We must move forward and start building mutual trust. Plus we have a presidential election that needs to happen on time.
it is the state against the outlaws
it is the lebasnese will against baathist and persian hegemony
What's wrong with the Baabda Declaration, that it brings us closer to being a real state? But of course, the likes of Mr. Berri cannot accept a real state, for it will make what he calls the resistance truly obsolete. I guess we still have some more years to go, push and pull before we reach some form of national consensus, by which time quite possibly we Lebanese would have become the minority in our own country, maybe after all, the Kissinger Plan is still alive and kicking, and this time will come to kick us all very hard in the butt. Let no one dream anymore, there will be no more one unified Syria, Syria is now witnessing its de facto partitioning, but that's besides the point. What truly worries me is this: where we will go thenceforth? And it certainly doesn't look good at this point.
I await the day when I will read ONE meaningful post, ONE counter argument, ONE credible or mature info from you,-_Flamethrower_- , but alas!
Popeye, will you one day make one meaningful post, one counter argument, one credible or mature info? Please start from the last bit, for a change, if you can )))
What is the terror party doing in Yabrud? protecting a shia village again or making it a shia village?
The picture of Berri, just as it is says tons. It says, we, the thieves, we the criminals, the counterfeiters, we the Mafia, we are here to stay, do what you wish, this is how it will remain. You, ya Loubnani, yes, YOU, Lebanese citizen, you live under our dictates. have a good president, good luck guys, if we killed the very best you had long ago, we blew him up for you, to shreds, that's because you ya Loubnani are prohibited from dreaming. That man you called Bachir, sure, say what you want, Bachir 7aye fina, say all you want about that crap, we will stay and keep you under our shoes. You hoped for Suleiman? Well, look what we did to him today. That's the truth.
I still can't believe how this guy who has blood on his hands still professes about running the country, staying away from Israeli and Syrian business will cause his milita and tribes to insist on running the country their way? He needs to leave this post as soon as his terms are over.
