Arab League Urges Syria to Stop violence 'Immediately'
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةThe Arab League on Sunday called on the Syrian authorities to "immediately" stop the violence that has rocked the country since mid-March, in the pan-Arab body's first official statement on the unrest.
League Secretary General Nabil al-Arabi "calls on the Syrian authorities to bring an end immediately to acts of violence and campaigns by the security forces against civilians," the statement said.
It said Arabi expressed his "increasing concern" because of "the deterioration of the security situation in Syria following the rise in violence and military operations in Hama, Deir Ezzor and several regions."
The Arab League chief met Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on July 13 on "developments in Syria," Syrian state television said.
Arabi at the time told reporters the league "rejects any interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries and nobody can withdraw the legitimacy of a leader because it is up to the people to decide."
He also underlined that Syria's stability was essential for other Arab countries.
This is an Arab league of imbeciles. Do they not see the Palestinians and their misery? Did they not see Syria when its forces were roaming our hills and prairies? But now and urgently, do they not see what has been and is still going on in Bahrain? Oh, I forgot that the people of Bahrain are Persian but only speak Arabic and know not even one Iranian word! Forgive me, impotent idiots.
Why are you shifting from your July 13th position? is it because the UN condemned the terrorist regime? Syria is surrounded by Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon. Can you guys force all Arab nations surrounding this terrorist regime to force democracy and enable the human rights and international (Arab and Western) reporters to enter ground zero of each Syrian city?
• UN Council statement issued
• Turkey’s “patience has run out” and their FM will visit Damascus to give strong warnings (my guess is that Turkey will be given a strong hand in Syria)
• The West and Russia are now starting to see eye to eye on this group of murderers
• GCC issued a very strong position against Assad
• UN Commission on refugees is now investigating the atrocities
• The Arab League (as ineffectual as it might be) finally woke up
• Evidence for crime against humanity is being collected
… the noose tightens on Assad and his prostitutes in Lebanon
The Arab league cannot see the months long protests, despite the violent and barabaric repression, as a withdrawal of Legitimacy from the Syrian regime!
The Syrian people have spoken but the ears of the Arab leaders are tuned to hearing what pleases them only.
The Arab league cannot support freedom while it is composed of nations among which none has a true democracy.
@LifeReality: Why don't we see live pictures from SANA of the Syrian Generals or soldiers being killed by the gangsters or terrorists as you claim?
Why is the Syrian regime afraid of allowing the cameras and reporters to enter Syria? Oh I forgot that we do not want to teach Israel how to terrorize and kill women and children.
