Change and Reform: Vacuum is Fatal and We Don't Accept Policy Statement Delay

The Change and Reform parliamentary bloc on Tuesday warned that a power vacuum in the country would be “fatal” to its political system, urging a speedy adoption of the new cabinet's policy statement.

“Is it true that we're unable to draft an acceptable policy statement for a cabinet that will last two or three months? The cabinet's mission is preserving security and preparing for the presidential vote, so how can it preserve them through vacuum?” MP Ibrahim Kanaan said during a press conference he held after the bloc's weekly meeting in Rabiyeh.

“Amid the fiscal deficit we have, how can we continue with our disputes? We cannot accept that the policy statement be delayed,” Kanaan stressed.

He said the bloc urges “everyone who has a will to preserve the Lebanese state and stability to facilitate the work of cabinet to start preparing for the presidential and parliamentary elections because political vacuum is lethal to the political system in Lebanon.”

The ministerial panel drafting the policy statement failed anew during a tenth meeting on Tuesday to reach an agreement over a controversial clause related to resistance against Israel, deciding instead to refer the thorny debate to the council of ministers.

Separately, the MP said the bloc calls for “putting an end to discrimination between men and women at all levels.”

His remarks came after the world marked the International Women's Day on Saturday and a mass demonstration demanding an end to violence against women was held in Beirut.

“We know the extent of interest in the domestic violence law and we're with equality between men and women and if there has to be a quota, let it be 50%, although we prefer open competition between men and women,” Kanaan said.

The accept the Baabda Declaration and base your policy statement on it. We cannot have the resistance every time eating at our table. They've done their work, Allah ya3teyoun alf 3afieh, now that resistance is called HezbBachar and he can count on them too because their loyalty for him and Souria has always been above Lebanon's. So now, what is asked of you is this: Lebanon and nothing else. Sign the damn statement wou khalsounah, because that void you so much fear will mean that the president will stay for another 3 years, like it or not, you have yourselves to blame. Ftilitkoun shou tawileh wloh!

Well said. They should return to lebanon asap and engage in liberating the lands in question through diplocamy and the international community. It doesn't always have to be with guns and rockets.

OK ya Roar, then let them change their name from Change and reform, to "Change and Deform". Either we all have the well being and interest of the state of Lebanon, a state that enjoys strong constitutional institutions such as a strong army, or let's stop for a while, pause, meditate, think, meditate, pause, think.....by which time when we come to decide for the good of the nation, those foreigners who are growing in numbers and whom we refer to as refugees will outnumber us, and will simply show us Lebanese the way out because they will come and replace us. Yalla, Syrians now well above the 1.7 million mark, Palestinians now over 700K, they come in and out of the country almost unfettered, God knows what they bring in or out, they're taking our jobs and businesses bit by bit, yalla, we're getting there, maybe sooner than we know.
