Cabinet members have agreed on urging security forces in preventing arms smuggling form Lebanon to prevent the country from becoming a safe haven for smugglers seeking to strike the security and stability of Syria, media reports said Tuesday.

As Safir newspaper said that Ministers Ali Hassan Khalil, Mohammed Fneish and Ali Qanso stressed during a cabinet session held at the Grand Serail on Monday that “every person has the freedom to express his political stance but this should not turn into participation in the plot against Syria.”

“Security and judicial agencies should follow up this issue,” the daily quoted the ministers as saying.

As Safir said that the ministers representing Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat also stressed the need to take all necessary measures to prevent the smuggling of weapons to Syria.

Ministerial sources told An Nahar daily that the ministers stressed that arms smuggling has severe repercussions on the situation in the country. They accused two sides of involvement in the alleged smuggling, the sources said, without naming the parties concerned.

The ministers agreed to task security and judicial agencies with carrying out the necessary investigation to hold those involved accountable, the sources added.

With Syria having hundred of kilometers of common borders with Jordan, Turkey, and Iraq our government led by the Baath and SSNP wants us to believe that SPONSORED weapons smuggling is taking place through Lebanese borders. Maybe a few individuals and smugglers want to profit as is the case in situations of this nature. Turkey alone has 850 kms of common borders with Syria.... Fundamentalists in Iraq are more than ready to pour arms and personnel into Syria.... the notion of accusing some parties in Lebanon of smuggling is for political consumption and lacks credibility.
I would have hoped the government is equally concerned about the flaw of weapons from the Syrian regime to its local surrogates here in Lebanon. Where do the thugs of Amal, Hiz Al Shabeeha, Baath, SSNP, etc get their weapons they often use to terrorize civilians and other sects? From Israel.... perhaps, but I doubt it.
So Miqati you and your so called government better shut up coz u have no credibility.

We're just returning the unsold to their original senders! Government isnt concerned with the 40000 missiles smuggled from Syria to Lebanon to the Hezb militia, let alone the other weapons to all surrogates in Lebanon!

This government which is useless and helpless keep creating issues and illusionary concerns to justify its pertinence.
From defending the Maritime borders of lebanon to preventing arm smuggling to Syria this government keep fishing for titles for its inactions.
Give up, the end of your masters is near and very soon we will take back Lebanon from the claws of Iran and Syria.
