The fugitive Sami Ahmed al-Atrash died in hospital after he was critically wounded in an exchange of gunfire with an army patrol that raided his house in the Bekaa border town of Arsal on Thursday, state-run National News Agency reported.
“Atrash was wanted on multiple arrest warrants,” NNA said.
The army later issued a statement saying “following investigations, the Intelligence Directorate managed to locate the whereabouts of the dangerous terrorist Sami al-Atrash in the town of Arsal.”
“Atrash opened fire at the army patrol that raided his location in the town, which prompted it to respond in kind,” the statement said, adding that “he later died of wounds he sustained” in the clash.
“The slain terrorist was wanted on charges of preparing bomb-laden cars; firing rockets and mortars at Lebanese villages and towns; kidnapping citizens; taking part in killing four citizens in Arsal's Wadi Rafeq and several soldiers in Arsal's Wadi Hmayyed; and plotting to assassinate an officer with an explosive device,” the army announced.
Meanwhile, NNA said the army carried out another raid in Arsal in which "the fugitives Ali Younis Ezzeddine and his brothers Nasser and Mohammed in addition to eight Syrians were arrested."
The name of Sami al-Atrash had been mentioned for the first time in media reports claiming that he collaborated with Sameh Breidi in preparing the first car bomb that exploded in the Beirut southern suburb of Bir al-Abed, a Hizbullah stronghold.
Last month, Military Investigative Judge Nabil Wehbe interrogated detained cleric Sheikh Omar al-Atrash and issued an arrest warrant for him.
State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr had charged the cleric with “belonging to an armed terrorist group with the aim of committing terrorist acts; transporting suicide bombers; preparing and transporting cars, suicide vests, rockets and explosives; attacking the army in Majdelyoun and al-Awwali Bridge; firing rockets on Israel; and the possession of arms and explosives.”
Sheikh Omar al-Atrash is a cousin of Omar al-Atrash, the main suspect in the Rweiss and Bir al-Abed bombings who was reportedly killed in a blast that targeted his car at dawn on October 11, 2013.

May all others who live by the sword follow this guy to hell soon.

Good riddance. I was worried that if he'd been arrested and sent to jail Hassin would spring into action again and personalty dispatch Nawwar al-Sahili to bail him out as in the case of Omar Bakri. At least Hassin did not tell the Lebanese army to negotiate with the terrorist as he did in 2007 in Nahr el Bared or draw Shaker al Absi red type lines around this one.

innocent until proven guilty, innit ?
Oh.. i forgot in Lebanon its sunni until proven innocent...
Wish Kahwa-boy was as brave in Jabal mohsen...

not crying, just not trusting army intelligence, aka Col. Ali Chahrour boys.
So many sunnis arrested, tortured and then released.
Remember that football player arrested ? He was saved only but his christian employers...
Same for sheikh Salem Rafei's assistant, arrested at the airport by army intelligence/HA, released after hours due to street protests...

cedre you are indeed crying, everytime you see LAF soldiers become matyred, you probaly cheer it. When these takfiris get what they deserved, you become angry and hateful as always. Typical salafi

cedre it appears the two are mutually exclusive, this guy sure should have had the opportunity to a fair trial then perhaps if found guilty shot, but if he chooses his own fate by shooting at the army then case closed he saved some court time..

good riddance. on a side note, i wonder why so many of the atrash family end up being terrorists.. is it a genetic deficiency? lol

god bless our army
good riddance ou 3a2bel the funders of these terrorists

Good riddance & good job beloved LAF, may the rest of these terrorists, and their offshoots, follow them into the hell fire.

Good catch. But I wonder why we only catch sunni and christian thugs. I rarely hear of shia catches from brital put in prison... When is nabih berri going to remove his political cover from his thugs?

Hey guys
I said in my above comment" good riddance"
I was voted down 4 times.
This criminal cannot have many supporters right?
if indeed he does have supporters that means Lebanon is doomed

Southern
I wonder if Assir was killed how many will vote me down if I say good riddance...lol

@southern
I actually welcome diverse opinions I believe this is the purpose of a forum to share views and while disagreeing but still respect each other views and all should be done in a civilized and courteous way. As a matter of fact divergence of views is precisely what makes a forum interesting and lively. then again here it is mission impossible...lol
I have friends whose political views are different but we are still friends and I love them very much
that's the way it should be

cedre
I do hope this will happen. Lebanon has to get rid of these radicals so as to become again 'un centre culturel de rayonnement" A country of tolerance, and again an example of harmonious co existence

March 14 and al-Mustaqbal al-Ta3ees, another warrior among you has fallen! My sincerest condolences.

And the Armenians were guilty of committing genocide against the Turks. It is true. Turkey has built "makeshift" memorials that they visit to remind them how the Armenians slaughtered 1.5 million Turks and stole almost 2/3 of Turkish lands.

No difference between Atrash and Mughnieh.
Both are terrorists and have killed innocent citizens. No matter what color or religion those citizens are.
