Shaaban Says Syria Must be in Anti-Jihadist Coalition

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

Syria must be part of the coalition against jihadists because the country is a key victim of "terrorism", an adviser to President Bashar Assad said on Friday.

"Terrorism didn't start in Syria today, it started four years ago" when the uprising against Assad began, Buthaina Shaaban was quoted as saying by state news agency SANA.

"So it is crucial that its victim, which has been damaged by this scourge, be a key part of the fight against terrorism," she said.

Her comments came as the United States assembles a coalition to tackle the Islamic State jihadist group, which is operating in Syria and Iraq.

The coalition pointedly does not include Syria, and Washington has said it plans air strikes on Syrian territory but it will not work with the government in Damascus.

Other Assad allies, including Russia, China and Iran, have also been left out of the coalition, to Syria's chagrin.

All countries that adopted a U.N. Security Council resolution against the Islamic State "must be part of the fight against terrorism", Shaaban said.

She also criticized a speech by U.S. President Barack Obama on Wednesday, saying it had "many shortcomings".

"No force can fight terrorism... from aircraft. They must be in touch with the victims of terrorism," she added.

Syria, and ally Russia, have warned that unilateral military action on Syrian territory would violate its sovereignty.

Michel Aoun 2003 “In the 1970s and 1980s, Lebanon was the first victim of Syrian terrorism. And this was one of the main reasons in 1978 to list Syria as the first terrorist country on the US State Department list of terrorist states. Back then, Hizbullah and Hamas did not even exist.”
Aoun ridiculed those calling on the Syria regime to dismantle what he called terrorist organizations, saying that they have reached “the height of naivete and folly.
“Furthermore, let’s not forget that the clandestine nature of these regimes and organizations would allow them to quickly and easily restructure and re-emerge under completely new aliases, ready to resume operations in full capacity,” he warned the US that Syria’s cooperation in the “war on terror” did not represent a strategic choice on the part of Damascus to combat terrorism. “It is only a tactical and temporary ploy to dodge responsibility for the central role that Syria has had in sponsoring terrorism during the last three decades.”

True in 2004,Syria was an occupying force in Lebanon and had refused to recognise the existence of the Republic of Lebanon.Syria had never had an embassy in Lebanon until after they finally left following the assassination of martyr Hariri.Following their withdrawal and the establishment of an embassy that finally formally recognises that syria and lebanon are 2 independent countries, we the lebanese should have the best relations with our neighbour. Before Afez el Assad took power, the previous sunni lead governments continued the same policy as the previous 30 years...that Lebanon was the 16th provence of Syria and not independent.
Bashar Assad recognised Lebanon as independent country with an embassy and withdrew the occupying army.Syrian,Lebanese conflict should have ended. Instead, the same people that wanted Lebanon to be part of Syria, defended Syrian occupation, colluded and benefited from the occupation, are now the saboteurs of peace between our countries.
This is the truth!

This is not just about sectarian religious, irani/saudi, sunni/shiite, Christain/muslim. This is about an independent Lebanon. Lebanon is not Syria. Those that what to tie our countries together through their sectarian views are the problem. We are nothing but pawns in a chess game.Pawns are the stupidest, most dispensable piece. Congratulations to these pawns who are celebrating the syrian war. all sides thought they would benefit some how. To all fools that cheer the syrian war...there is no solution to the syrian conflict without the suffering and death of Lebanese!

Amazing it's like Aoun of Christmas past is here to haunt the Syrian regime. Everything he said then reflects the current situation. The warnings are the same, although the names of the terrorists change the terrorists sponsoring regime is still the same. The regime's terrorist tactics are the same from Samaha on, they instigate the terrorist act, blame others for it and then offer to help. The defenders of the regime are also the same, they use the same arguments and excuses they did back then.

Syria will be represented in the coalition against jihadists by the FSA not by Bashar's forces. The countdown for the Jihadists and for Bashar has started.
We've been hearing voices from the Syrian Regime, Hizballah, and the FPM crying to enter the coalition against jihadists along side KSA and the USA. These are the same voices that were attacking KSA and the USA and accusing them for supporting ISIS.
Again, the coutdown for the end of Bashar and ISIS has started.

Default-user-icon ghassan (Guest) 12 September 2014, 20:50

Training for new brigades is going on as we write. They will be well trained and well equipped. Rumor has it that Munaf Tlass will be leading the FSA soon if not already.
The fact is that the coalition against jihadists will not include Bashar nor Hizballah. ISIS and Nusra will shrink to nothing under the coalition's attacks and the FSA will rise to take over in Syria. Your beloved Bashar and Hizballah will be scrambling to exit Syria. Stop fooling yourself.

Syria should be in the coalition!!! What a joke this syrian killing regime is... They want to be part of the coalition so they can kill the opposition against the regime and justify the killing of children , women , civilians under the name of the war on terror!!!They don't need to be part of the coalition because they are already doing so and people are watching them... The real terrorist are Assad regime, hizb elshaytan in leb, iranian regime, the saudi regime, USA, Russia...and all the big powers that supplies weapons, and are watching like viewers the killing and the opression of innocent people in syria and all around the globe...Did someone ever asked it self where the so called terrorist groups(ISIS, hizb shaytan, hamas, quaida, etc... gets their wepons and money from???) you will find the answer by you're own...

Yes we know about the main alliances, and we know the FSA is the weakest. However, the Islamic Front and the FSA have sided with each other in battles. If Bashar is ever gonna be defeated, the West will have to convince the Islamic Front to change their ideology/objectives. As to whether or not they'd be willing to change I have no clue. But the point is the Islamic Front and the FSA have fought alongside each other before.

Bigjohn, comrade, happy to see some comon sence here, at last so light...
Just on coment, please lose the silent majority crap (u know al aktariyeh al samita), this is just a way to make ourself more at ease and avoid to take side, like in lebanon in 2005 despite assassination of hariri, kassir, hawi... Some leftists (still living in soviet area as if putin was a secular, socialist comrad fighting the evel imperialistic west) chose that they are with the silent majority...
Revolutions, uprising, dictatorial regime changes rarely come with flower and if secular persons just stay out of it it wont make it better at all...
U once said u were a leftist, leftists are not supposed to be with the people against the tyrans? (Ryad el turk was jaild for approximatively a period equal to mandela..) against people like makhlouf (bilionaires bc of the regime family while the population is living in shit?...) i must hv got leftist wrong..
Anyway u win ur chupachup rafik, hv a nice weekend

Yalla u still get ur chupachup rafik, relax....
