Kataeb Urges Officials to Carry out 'Most Basic National Duties' to Save Lebanon

The Kataeb Party urged on Monday officials to exercise their national duties in order to end the political deadlock in the country that has affected various sectors of the country.

It said in a statement after its weekly politburo meeting: “Officials need to carry out their simplest national, constitutional, and political duties to extract Lebanon and its institutions from the political quagmire they have been suffering from for years.”

It noted the poor security situation “in all Lebanese regions, especially the Bekaa and the North.”

On the political level, “dialogue has been severed between all political leaders,” it lamented.

“They are instead occupying themselves with trading accusations that will serve to deepen the divide between the Lebanese people,” said the party.

Furthermore, it condemned the ongoing failure to elect a new president, especially given that the country has been suffering from a presidential vacuum for 149 days.

“This vacuum will incur disastrous repercussions on our national institutions and Lebanon's credibility abroad,” it explained.

It also voiced its fears over the “strength of the national currency and the fate of commercial and industrial institutions in Lebanon.”

“While Lebanon is faced with all of these challenges, we are busy with petty squabbles. The Lebanese people have despaired of the inept politicians' failure to take the most basic steps needed to return Lebanon and its institutions on the right path,” said the Kataeb Party.

“The Lebanese people are not juveniles and the officials should not act as if they are incapable of carrying out the simplest national duties,” it added.

“The Kataeb Party has and still is exerting all efforts in order to end this fatal political cycle,” it stressed.

Lebanon has been without a president since the term of Michel Suleiman ended in May.

Ongoing disputes between the rival March 8 and 14 camps over a compromise candidate has thwarted the elections.

Allow them to vote for Pres directly but all in one session only. The Christians have too much power already, the Shi3as are the majority and have been marginalized for decades. Michel Aoun's two tier voting plan marginalizes them even more. We should all vote in one session only enough hypocrisy!

A christian who supports a traitor (the caporal) is himself a traitor.

So you can label yourself as a traitor. Sign under what you really are.

Said it before and will say it again. Without the diaspora vote, the public vote will not be representative. Do not suggest half solutions to satisfy your personal needs.
