Opposition: Govt. Must Take Electricity File Amendments into Consideration
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةJoint parliamentary committees are expected to convene on Monday in order to discuss the electricity draft law that was approved by the government on September 7, reported the daily An Nahar on Sunday.
The draft law however was handed over to the committees on Thursday without the amendments that were introduced to it by the cabinet.
These amendments called for the formation of the Electricity Regulatory Authority and resorting to Arab funds to finance the law.
Given the failure to mention the changes, the head of the Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc MP Fouad Saniora, who participated in the joint committees’ last meeting, demanded that the government present a printed paper that stipulates the mechanisms to comprehensively implement the electricity plan.
Prominent opposition sources told the opposition that its MPs are waiting for Monday’s session in order to determine their future steps on the draft law.
They explained that if the amendments are taken into consideration, then the law will be implemented without incident.
Should the amendments be disregarded, then the opposition MPs will thwart the approval of the law, revealed the sources.
“The government should introduce the changes based on the decisions it made during the September 7 cabinet session,” they stressed.
