Al-Rahi Calls on Christians to Confront Attack on Islam

Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi stressed on Tuesday that Christians should help Muslims to confront the assault against Islam by terrorists.

“The developments in the Middle East are not related to ethics or humanity in any way,” al-Rahi said during his visit to the state of Victoria in Australia.

He pointed out that the “terrorist acts carried out by some sides under the name of Islam are not related to the religion of Muslims.”

The Patriarch headed to Australia on Thursday on a two-week pastoral visit.

Al-Rahi described terrorism as the “result of regional and international interests.”

“We realize that not all terrorists are Muslims... but there's a scheme to distort the image of Islam, which compels Christians to help Muslims confront the campaign against their religion,” al-Rahi noted.

The rise of the Islamic State group has destabilized the region and had a negative impact on the security situation in Lebanon.

The Lebanese army engaged over the weekend in a four-day deadly battles with Islamist gunmen in the northern coastal city of Tripoli.

Militants have carried out repeated attacks against the army, accusing it of cooperating with Hizbullah.

The battle between the Lebanese army and extremists in northern Lebanon was widely expected after members of the IS and al-Qaida's branch in Syria, the Nusra Front, launched several attacks over the past weeks in areas on the border with Syria.

Thank you Your Eminence, saving this country has everything to do with unity, in fact, the Lebanese don't have much problems with unity, our politicians are the ones doing everything in their might to divide us and rule us. And why we may ask, simple: Divide and rule, rule and share the national cake, walaw? They ALL did it during the war, they're still doing it during peace time. The other thing that remains as before is the Syrian, that's right, the Syrian, before it was the Syrian nation that dictated where and how the cake is shared, not it's the same, but the snake now has two heads, Regime and Opposition. To come back to facts, we Lebanese are not divided, once we start the movement, freedom will come soon after.

phoenix1, I said it when the syrian rebellion and unrest began... what happens in syria always affects lebanon in a negative way. Some were cheering the syrian civil war because they wanted revenge for what syria did to lebanon... But nothing good can come from turmoil in syria. Syrian government or opposition all regarded Lebanon as the 16th provence of syria! Now the syrian rebels are even more a threat to the Lebanon because they reject coexistence with non sunni! The levant is a land of minorities that must coexist and lebanon is the example of this existence! God bless the batrak and the LAF... The main voices and protecter of The Lebanese Republic!

May God Bless the Batrak for having the courage to stand up for Lebanon. All the other Lebanese leaders could learn a thing or two from him. SHN is a leader who makes poor decisions so his time should be coming to an end.
