Miqati: Deterioration of Situation in Syria Will Place Lebanon in a Risky Position

Prime Minister Najib Miqati voiced fears that the deterioration of the situation in Syria will have dangerous repercussions in the region, reported As Safir newspaper on Saturday from the Wall Street Journal.

He added that such a deterioration will also place Lebanon in a precarious position.

“There is no point in Lebanon taking an official stand on the violence in Syria as any position may destabilize our country’s fragile stability,” he stressed.

“I don’t know what or who may succeed Syrian President Bashar Assad in power, but the road will be long,” he noted.

“I know him well even though I haven’t contacted him in a few months,” said the premier.

“I hope the Syrian people get what they want,” Miqati stated.

The premier is expected to return to Beirut on Saturday from New York City where he chaired the United Nations Security Council.

All of the assassinations and weapons smuggling have been risky enough. Let them fall. Let ASSad run for his life for a change.

Bala Amel, your avatar and un.Lebanese comments are offensive towards the heroic Lebanese freedom fighters whom fought the filthy Hez-sbelleh militia and the millitant Palestinian invaders. You have exposed yourself as non-Lebanese. Khodeto Bokun

Even if there has to be a 100.000 dead let's finish with those vermines in the ME and create a once and for all prosperous region! Has the deterioration in Egypt created a risky position in Soudan? Has the deterioration of the situation in Lybia, created a risky situation in Algiers? Those dictators who have been holding a tight grip on power, can make it as serious as they want for themselves and others, or choose to step aside, and aknowledge the change taking place. But that won't happen in Syria until the heads of those in power roll the same way the civilans' heads are, under their terror rule!

Metwali, there is a good reason why Hizbollah hasn t taken over power militarily after may 7th. They could have done it easily. But then, they would have been reduced to minced meat by Israel this time round. And they know it.Israel will not tolerate a Farsi gov in Beirut. As a result, They are far better hiding behind surrogates, and shielding behind the State and other helpless Lebanese, and appear as though they, re not directing events. So they' ll keep hiding like rats underground and do nothing.

Deterioration is better than dictatorships and it is sometimes necessary.. there is so much filth in Syria that needs to be cleaned up..filthy people that do not spare women and children.
