Hizbullah Takes Lead on South Syria Frontline

Lebanon's Hizbullah has taken the lead role on a key frontline in southern Syria near the border with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, a monitoring group said Tuesday.

A Syrian military source confirmed Hizbullah was engaged in fighting in Quneitra and Daraa provinces as part of efforts to stop rebels advancing in the area.

Hizbullah and President Bashar Assad's troops launched a new operation on Sunday to reclaim swathes of territory captured recently by rebels and jihadists, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

"Hizbullah has taken the initiative to lead army and Iranian forces in the triangle of territory linking Daraa, Quneitra and the southwest of Damascus provinces," said Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the British-based monitoring group.

"The frontline is on the border with the occupied Golan Heights," he added. "They have since taken back a string of villages and hills."

Iran has acknowledged sending military advisers and high-ranking officers from the elite Revolutionary Guard to help its ally Assad.

Unlike the Observatory, the military source said the Syrian army was leading the offensive.

"The Syrian army and its allies, including Hizbullah, are fighting battles against armed groups in Quneitra and Daraa provinces," the source told Agence France-Presse on condition of anonymity.

He added that the goal of the campaign was to "put a stop to the armed men's attacks, (as they inch) towards the capital."

Syrian rebels and the al-Qaida-affiliated al-Nusra Front have in recent weeks made sweeping gains in the south of the country.

Daraa and Quneitra are important because they are located near Damascus, Jordan and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Hizbullah first acknowledged it was sending troops into Syria to back Assad in early 2013 against the mainly Sunni rebels.

According to the Observatory, about 5,000 Hizbullah fighters are now deployed across the country.

On January 18, six Hizbullah fighters including a senior commander were killed in an Israeli strike in Quneitra.

Hizbullah said the fighters were involved in reconnaissance in the area, and responded by attacking an Israeli military convoy in the occupied Shebaa Farms, killing two soldiers and wounding seven others.

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights is a Zionist mouthpiece that is unless it reports something about the evils of the people fighting Assad.
That is always the case, Michel Aoun was a Zionist mouthpiece for almost two decades that is until he made a deal to return to Lebanon with a pro Syrian pro Hezbollah agenda.

"Hizbullah has taken the initiative to lead army and Iranian forces in the triangle of territory linking Daraa, Quneitra and the southwest of Damascus provinces,"

Well it is clear to me and every other Lebanese that hezbollah is defending Lebanon, is resisting, and disassociating Lebanon from the Syrian war. Being in Quneitra and Daraa is pure resistance. Of course I am being sarcastic. This sectarian militia must be stopped but how?!!

Whiners will whine, losers will lose :)
In the mean time, Hezbollah will clean up that area from the scum who plant bombs in cars and buses from Damascus to Beirut and threaten our border villages with raids. The israeli intervention in Quneitra failed to save the israeli pawns. Go Hezbollah, steamroll those punks

Israel cannot be allowed to establish a foothold in Syria through their takfiri pawns. The link must be cut in the Golan.

bless anyone person, entity, organization, brigade or country that inflicts pain and suffering, death, torture, and destruction upon the iranian sectarian terrorist militia and its members, supporters or followers wherever they may be.

Oh here's the zombie! It's a very nice prayer you came up with to cheer for israelis and takfiris, but I think there is something wrong with it: The more you repeat it the more your friends get stomped!

Marcus, I do agree with you on most of your post albeit a few parts. Personally I have resigned myself to accept Hezbollah's role in Syria, Iran, Gaza, wherever it pleases to go but in Lebanon it should leave us clear. You see, if and when Hezbollah or anyone of its cadres wishes to tell us that they are a Lebanese resistance, I for one will immediately defy them. Hezbollah is no longer a Lebanese entity, Sayed Hassan has long since chosen the path of triangulating with the Syrians and Iranians, in fact as clearly testified by this very article. I don't wish to sound sectarian, but all the same, let anyone Lebanese, be he or she Shiite, Sunni or Christian who wishes to fight for anyone other than Lebanon, then let them do it OUT of Lebanon and NOT in Lebanon. Only those who die for Lebanon are Lebanese, the rest are mercenaries, period.

Got to love this quote from Naharnet - "President Bashar Assad's troops" Those are the Syrian National Armed Forces, just like the LAF we have in Lebanon. Naharnet propaganda

Thumb Mystic 10 February 2015, 21:02

Like it or not texas, the Syrian Arab army are the official forces in Syria. By the way, they are fighting the same so called "Civilians" ISIS & Nusra as the LAF/Resistance does.

I want to point out to everyone, that anonymetexasusa considers takfiris Nusra/da3ish whom beheads Lebanese soldiers as civilians. Read his comments well, and it is not hard to spot.

The takfiris are desperate in this Golan area, they are so massed in there, that the zionist closes their borders behind then only allowing wounded salafis in the hospitals. The takfiris are the pickets of Israel.
