Spoiled Meat Confiscated in Tripoli

Inspectors from the health department of the Tripoli municipality raided on Sunday a meat shop in the northern city where it seized a quantity of product that does not meet health standards, reported the National News Agency.

It said that the department patrol ordered the owner of the shop to adhere to health standards and rehabilitate his store within 15 days.

Failure to comply would lead to the permanent closure of the shop.

Tripoli municipal chief Nader al-Ghazal expressed his “determination to combat all flaws and health and medical negligence related to the people's safety.”

He called on the residents of Tripoli to cooperate with the concerned authorities to help them perform their duties in safeguarding their health.

“Violating the health and safety of the residents is a red line,” he declared.

Health Minister Wael Abou Faour had kicked off in October a food safety campaign aimed at cracking down on violators and improving health standards in Lebanon.

A number of restaurants, slaughterhouses, and warehouses have been shut down due to their violations, while others have sought to meet the ministry's conditions.
