Iraq Opposes Saudi-Led Air Strikes in Yemen

Iraq's foreign minister on Thursday opposed Saudi-led air strikes on Shiite rebels in Yemen, saying military intervention was not a solution.

Ibrahim al-Jaafari, whose Shiite-led government is fighting Sunni jihadists in Iraq with Western and Iranian backing, said he supported a "peaceful" approach to Yemen.

"We are not with the strikes, and we are against foreign intervention," he told AFP ahead of an Arab foreign ministers' meeting in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

"I don't think military solutions can be the start of a resolution. We support peaceful solutions," he said.

The ministers were meeting to prepare for an Arab summit in Sharm el-Sheikh over the weekend at which member states will discuss proposals for a joint military force.

Lol such "men" has to be among the greatest hypocrites on earth. 100% shameless statement. You allow it against your enemies but if it's against your allies then all of a sudden, you are staunchly pro-peaceful solutions? Nice joke, keep exposing yourself ya rawafid.

Iran supported Houthis just like KSA supported al qaeda and Hadi, but they didnt intervene like KSA just did. This is a big escalation step that KSA just took, and the repercussions could go very far.

who has been bombing al qaeda relentlessly in yemen? was it iran or Hadi government in conjunction with the USA?

The KSA helped the legitimate government of Yemen even under Saleh while Iran only helps the shia. The same behavior can be seen in Lebanon

Mowaten - stop the lies. Al-Qaeda is the Saudi regime biggest enemy. Hadi's government drove Al-Qaeda from most of South and Eastern Yemen WITH SAUDI AND AMERICAN support.

they have been allegedly bombing al qaeda for years now, with what effect? al qaeda in yemen only grew stronger, their headquarters and leaders weren't touched, many civilians were killed meaning more angry people joining al qaeda's ranks. stop being so naive, they nurtured qaeda rather than destroyed it.

It looks like bassil will also abstain or vote against the resolution. Loyal to his masters in Iran and Syria
