Prime Minister Tammam Salam contacted on Friday his Turkish counterpart to request Ankara's assistance in helping Lebanon resolve its waste disposal crisis, reported Anatolia news agency.

It said that Salam contacted Ahmet Davutoglu to discuss the issue.

Turkish ministerial sources told the news agency that Davutoglu had informed Salam of his country's readiness to help Lebanon end its crisis.

“Turkey has the means to end the problem,” he reportedly told the premier.

Davutoglu then tasked the Turkish Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning to devise the relevant plans.

He also ordered that a technical team travel to Beirut “as soon as possible” to tackle the crisis, added Anatolia news agency.

The necessary measures to that end are being taken, it said.

The trash crisis erupted on July 17 when the Naameh landfill south of Beirut was closed.

The closure resulted in the piling of garbage on the streets as dumpsters overflowed with their contents and politicians failed to find a new landfill.

all my respect goes to you Mr. Salam trying to manage these wolves around you. Enta ibn 3ayleh

Poor guy. Lebanon is already a carcass, but the wolves are still trying to pick at the last remaining piece of meat.

Even to clear garbage we need to get help and directions from outside, pathetic.

My thoughts exactly. We are exporting brain power to the whole world and left with potato heads leading us. I never said anything against Salam before, but this is a huge disappointment.

@helicopter
If it simply is an 11th hour desperate plea then one would agree with your assessment.

Seen from the checks and balances angle, it makes more sense. the Sunni community feels it is being pushed too hard too fast; not that their politicians are any better than the lot of them.

First electricity generated from boats off shore and now waste disposal? Turkey to the rescue!

What a shame, bahdale.... even to pick up the trash we need to get external support ?? Let us partition this country once for all and stop to live with these crooks who are also incompetent ! In any country the Minister environment would resign and elections would happen -

The people want elections and accountability !

Prime Minister Tammam Salam
I suggest contacting the German government to help you learn how to deal with social services including cleaning the Lebanese mess from garbage.

hey let's turn Fatmagul Sultan into a trash container ship, it's worth more that way.

Your Jewish neighbors South of you would love to help with both the garbage and the fight against ISIS, but Hezbullah's pride is sending Lebanon into the abyss.

If we had honest and capable ministers instead of thugs and strongmen, everything has a solution.
I wished Salam could fire all of them and replace them by technocrats who are non-political.
