Miqati Picture Burned, Hizbullah Warned in Tripoli Anti-Assad Demo

Some 150 Lebanese and Syrian protesters gathered in the northern city of Tripoli Friday to demand Syria's President Bashar al-Assad step down and warning his Lebanese ally, Hizbullah, that it would be next.

Chanting "Down with Bashar al-Assad" and "Your turn is next, Hizbullah," they gathered outside the local Qubba mosque before making their way through the densely populated city.

The rally, organized by a local Islamic group, called for Lebanon to withdraw its ambassador from Syria and demanded that Prime Minister Najib Miqati, himself a Tripoli native, step down.

Protesters also burned pictures of the premier.

The protest comes days after Lebanon voted against suspending Damascus from the 22-member Arab League, siding with Yemen and Syria.

The vote further escalated an already heated feud between the country's anti-Assad opposition, led by ex-premier Saad Hariri, and Miqati's government, which has justified the step by saying Lebanon was against "isolating" any Arab country.

Tripoli has regularly been the scene of clashes between Sunnis and minority Alawite Muslims, who are loyal to the fellow Alawite Assad family.

Assad's troops have cracked down on protests against the regime in Syria, killing more than 3,500 people in eight months, according to U.N. figures, and triggering a torrent of international condemnation.

wahabies and farsis two faces of the same garbage
as for mikati,his mistakes are TIMING;
his timing of being prime minister at a wrong time
he was allied with the assad family since 20 years,he chosed to put it in profitability at the wrong time... but frankly is he allowed to resign?too late, his wife and children didnt want this mess but as in all families he followed the advice of his family and especially his brother taha....his future depends totally on the fate of bashar..BILAD EL ARZ ARE ETERNAL,IT CAN FORGIVE BUT FORGET?

I never heard of any Salafist group wanting to go to war with HA. I know hundreds of Salafists would love to go to the South and attack the Israeli army. Imagine if HA allows the M14 Salafists in part of the south to attack the Israelis occupying Shebaa. Would the Lebanese Army who never fired a shot at the Israeli invaders attack them? THIS IS different than in the north where the mostly non-Lebanese Salafists attacked the Lebanese Army. What will happen to the Hariri/Salafist alliance?

mowaten, stop talking in english and start the farse lol.. dude, all totalitarian entities, including hizbustan, have no prospects and will fail in the long term. You know that deep in your heart, and you probably do not even know how to read the quran or pray properly (which is fine). Quit your inner conflicts and be honest with yourself, why do all the she3as want western citizenships and not iranian/north korean/syrian ones? this is real reason of Arab defeat: inner conflicts.
