Aoun: I Won't Defend Govt. against Mustaqbal Bid to Oust It

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun on Tuesday announced that he would not “defend” Premier Najib Miqati’s government if the rival Mustaqbal Movement sought to topple it in the near future.

Asked about the views he shares with Miqati during an interview on his movement’s mouthpiece OTV, Aoun said: “We agree with PM Miqati that Lebanon’s security is interlinked with that of Syria. We will see if the Mustaqbal Movement will call for toppling the government, but we will not defend it.”

“We will hold the thieves accountable, crimes have been committed. My conscience surpasses the political alliance. I was commissioned by the people and I’m defending people’s money,” he added.

Turning to the controversial issue of the U.N.-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon, Aoun said: “Why would we put the entire (2012 state) budget on hold for the sake of the tribunal’s funds which are worth $30 million?”

“There is bad performance in cabinet and I don’t know why everything is stalled. The taxation system is wrong and comprehensive plans for everything, such as health and other issues, have been all shelved. I’m not a beggar, these are the people’s rights,” Aoun went on to say.

“How can (U.N. chief) Mr. Ban Ki-moon convince me that world peace is threatened because of the crimes that happened in Lebanon?” he wondered.

Slamming the United Nations, Aoun said “throughout 63 years, we have not heard any outcry from the U.N. concerning the Palestinian people and its plight,”

“Should human rights exist only in Syria?” he asked.

“The tribunal is 6-year-old, so why don’t we wait for another six months to settle its constitutional status?”

FPM leader MP Michel Aoun in an interview on OTV: We must differentiate between superficial and real independence. We only seem to be independent and there are no foreign forces on our soil. There is a resistance movement and the threats are still the same. There is ambiguity because we don’t understand what is sovereignty. If we say we don’t want the Resistance we would be losing our cause. On whom shall we rely? The U.N. or other organizations?

For Mikati, with allies like this, who needs enemies?
For the man with a crooked eye, everyone is crooked. A thief sees theivery in everyone, whether its there or not.

Aoun is special, he of the crooked eye that is hooked to a dysfunctional brain.
He is now as he was in 1990, Don Quixoti tilting against imaginary windmills. Lached on tightly to the wrong dictator. In 1990, he was fastened at the hip to Saddam Hussein who used to sell weapons to the Lebanese Army from the surplus he would capture from the Iranians during the IRan - Iraq War. Long after Saddam ceased being an American ally and became public enemy #1, Aoun still held on tight so that when Hafez al Assad asked to depose "the little Saddam in Lebanon", Bush I gave Daddy Assad the green light.

Now, 20 years later, Assad is latched on to Assad II, even as he is going down. As happened 20 years ago, Aoun will again go down. Better get the house ready in Marselle France, the visitor is coming back. . . soon.

Seriously, at least write some constructive comment. Where do you disagree with what he said?
I'd love to read ANY constructive on Naharnet regarding Aoun.

You guys are seriously pathetic!

I hope the we the Lebanese will NEVER accept this clown as a president. If he is forced on us by the Syrians/Iranians/Hezbos, we should create a revolution to remove him. Aoun has sold his soul, his karami, his sharraf to get back into Baabda Palace. FASHAR!! NEVER again will he see the presidency. We saw that movie once and don't want to see an encore performance.

Suddenly even an idiot smells the smoke from Syria. Only a week ago he was saying it would be over the following Tuesday.

ex-proGMA said it best. He will soon need to add to his list:

2011 tried to pretend he is independent in the face of the downfall of ASSad so he could try and cover his idiocy of joining with the Hezz, Syria, and Iran.

2012.....committed to another mental institution. He kept repeating "I want to be president".

"If we say we don’t want the Resistance we would be losing our cause"

When the LF were RESISTING against Syria in 1989, you had another opinion ya General! You thought the state should be "sovereign", and that only the army could defend us... What changed huh??

"It is difficult to understand how Syria could have in the first place marketed itself to the world as a stability factor in Lebanon, when the reality is that it has subverted and destroyed that stability! We are at a loss to understand how the world allows Syria to remain in Lebanon when Syria has failed to meet any of its commitments!"

Michel Aoun 1998

"The Syrians shelled the residential areas and carried out massacres; they imposed censorship on the press and began shutting down some of the media. They assassinated politicians, clergymen, reporters and diplomats. They bombed embassies and chased out virtually all diplomatic missions from Beirut. They kidnapped people, both individuals and groups, and liquidated them. They incited massacres in some areas of the country and executed military prisoners. Many Lebanese nationals remain incarcerated in Syrian jails even as we speak."

"The Syrian regime has halted all bilateral negotiations between Israel and Lebanon, thus bypassing the bilateral nature of peace negotiations. It rendered the prospect of peace between Lebanon and Israel contingent upon the dragging and slow process of the Syrian track with Israel."
