Football: Ex-Coach Bennell Officially Charged with 8 Counts of Child Abuse
The former football coach Barry Bennell who is at the center of the scandal rocking English football was on Tuesday formally charged with eight counts of child abuse, prosecutors said.
“Following a review of the evidence, in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors, Mr Bennell, 62, has today been charged with eight offenses of sexual assault against a boy under the age of 14," read a statement from the the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
The 62-year-old -- who has already served three jail terms for previous child sex offenses -- has faced a slew of allegations of sexual abuse by victims when he was working for Crewe Alexandra, Manchester City and Stoke City spanning three decades beginning in the 1970s.
