Blast Targets French UNIFIL Patrol in Tyre, 7 Injured

Five French soldiers and two civilians were wounded on Friday by a powerful roadside bomb that targeted a UNIFIL patrol in the southern coastal city of Tyre, a spokesperson and media reports said.
UNIFIL spokesman Andrea Tenenti said the 5 peacekeepers were injured when an explosion targeted their patrol in an area south of Tyre around 9:30 am. He did not specify to which contingent they belonged to.
But Tenenti said UNIFIL investigators are currently working with their counterparts in the Lebanese army to determine the facts behind the incident.
The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.
Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3) reported that two civilians were also wounded in the explosion.
The explosives were placed in a garbage bin in the area of al-Nabaa on the road that leads to Burj al-Shamali in Tyre, it said.
But a security official told Agence France Presse that the bomb was hidden under dirt on the side of the road and detonated as the soldiers were driving by in a four-wheeler.
The blast left a one-meter deep crater and caused damages to nearby houses.
Security forces cordoned off the area as hundreds of onlookers gathered nearby.
A French U.N. patrol was attacked on July 26 and Italian peacekeepers were targeted on May 27.
UNIFIL Force Commander Major-General Alberto Asarta Cuevas denounced the attack but vowed it would not deter his troops from fulfilling their mandate.
"This vile and despicable act not only aims to cause harm to the peacekeepers but also to undermine the stability and peace that have been prevailing in the south," he said in a statement.
"We will not be diverted from our tasks and we remain focused in our efforts to fulfill our mandate together with the Lebanese Armed Forces," he added.

Ya mowaten and others, remember that hizb is against disarming any militia in Lebanon and also remember that Noussralla declared Nahr Al Barad camp a red line before the army attacked it. So open your eyes and stop blaming everything on salafists and look @ hizb and allies for the culprits...that's the hizb style which is terrorism by proxy.

mowaten, why do you say who we keep accusing of being with Iran. Its never been a secret that the hizb is Irans pawn. its just brainwashed people like you, but mostly the new generations who are told something as they are growing up that the hizb is actually god and can do what they would like in lebanon. Hizbullah: The bombing against UNIFIL targets Lebanon’s security and specifically the stability of its south. We urge the Lebanese security agencies to exert utmost efforts to put an end to such attacks.
As if security forces are allowed to do anything in the South :)

These extremist group operate out of Palestinian camps & bases and are affiliated with Palestinian factions that are based in Damascus.
Case in point Fath el Islam whose leader was first imprisoned in Syria then for terrorist activities in Syria then suddenly few years later he was reased and sent to Lebanon to create Fath el Islam out of the thousands of Islamist fighters passing through Syria to and from Irak at the time
Bashar's regime doesn't count on Just Hizb to infiltrate and destabilize Lebanon. He has other tool in other sects. Wahhab with the Druze, and even the Kaoumieh in Christians.
when the Syrians were still in Lebanon, and whenever the Christian parties used to stage demonstrations against Syrian presence - a lot of radical Islamist group would suddenly show up with butcher knifed and guns and threaten the anti-Syrian protester.

HA CAN allow the M14 Salafists to come to the south and attack the western controlled UN and Israeli occupiers in Shebaa. The arguments in the North against Fatah Islam was that they were attacking the Lebanese and the enemy is not in the North. If hundreds of M14 Salafists resist Israeli occupation of Shebaa, will the Hariri mustqbal support the Lebanese Army in attacking them? Little Hariri has already said that HE supports resistance against Israel? I could see a civil war among M14 sectarian Sunnis. HA has many cards to play against M14, if they are pressured.
