Diab Says Won't Appear before Bitar Today

W460

Caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diab will not appear before the lead investigator in Beirut’s port blast case Judge Tarek Bitar, as a defendant today, Thursday, according to a memo issued by the Premiership's General-Secretariat.

The memo was sent to Bitar informing him of his “lack of jurisdiction to interrogate the resigned prime minister.”

The Premiership's General-Secretariat added that the file is still “in the hands of the parliament, which has not yet resolved the issue of the charges against the deputies and Diab, the lifting of immunities and the referral of the file to the Higher Council for the Trial of Presidents and Ministers.”

Bitar should have summoned Aoun before anybody else as he confessed to knowing about the nitrates and did nothing. And since, he knows the dangers of Nitrates, he's more to blame than Diab. Hence, Aoun before Diab should be interrogated and jailed. By doing so, he would not be a president anymore and Lebanon would be freed from someone who brought it to hell. Good riddance. I am one of those who believes that should Aoun be deposed, Lebanon would quickly regain its old self and fly high. Should Aoun remain in power, even for a moment, Lebanon would go from bad to worse to the deepest parts of hell. Everyone knew who Aoun was, and yet, they agreed to vote him in as a president. Hence, Hariri and Gagaa are mainly to blame for this terrible mistake.
