March 14 MPs Slam Cabinet on Last Day of Parliamentary Session

March 14 opposition lawmakers continued their criticism of the cabinet on the third and last day of a parliamentary session aimed at assessing the performance of Premier Najib Miqati’s government.

Lebanese Forces MP George Adwan said in his statement to the assembly that almost a year after its formation and after holding 50 sessions, “this cabinet was mainly ruled by disputes between its members.”

On a decision by Lebanon to steer itself clear of the Syrian crisis, the lawmaker said a policy of distancing the country from the neighboring country’s violence means the border should be controlled from both sides and the boundary should not be violated.

He revealed that 10 people were killed inside Lebanese territories by Syrian gunfire since the Assad regime launched a crackdown on protestors in March last year. The last person to die was al-Jadeed TV cameraman Ali Shaaban.

The assassination attempt on LF chief Samir Geagea should be referred to the Judicial Council, he said.

Al-Mustaqbal bloc MP Kazem al-Kheir slammed the government for “not achieving anything but more social, security, and political chaos.”

Another member of the same bloc, Ziad al-Qaderi said “the government is plotting against Lebanon’s sovereignty.”

“It came to take vengeance from Lebanon and create crises, he said.

“In the dictionary of the government there is no state but their state and no institution but their institution,” he said in reference to Hizbullah.

Like the other members of his bloc, al-Mustaqbal MP Atef Majdalani described the government as "decomposing" and "ineffective."

Independent MP Tammam Salam also criticized the cabinet, saying “it stopped being productive nine months ago and we can say that it has shifted to a caretaker role, which it is executing poorly.”

He also slammed Culture Minister Gaby Layyoun for allowing an investor to build a structure at the location of the Roman hippodrome in downtown Beirut.

“Is it a ministry of culture and national treasure or a ministry of trade and real estate?” he wondered.

reminds me of a song. 'we're on a road to no where'. This governments band aid solutions to major problems is a joke. If they cannot implement their policies because they cannot agree what their policies are then it is time to go. They came in by force and have done very little. I hope the lebanese people can vote objectively at the next elections, bring on the expat vote, and i also hope the m8 crowd can refrain from being as disruptive as they were as opposition previously. Having saidthat i hope m14 and m8 no longer exist and we have a government elected by the people for the people. it's good to dream :)

This pathetic current government doesn't care about the Lebanese people and the working men and women, this gov't has 3 objectives only:
Stand against the STL when the evidence goes public
Keeping Hizb militia Weapons
Keeping Aoun dancing and singing to hizb tunes

Missing mohammad_ca 19 April 2012, 17:58

your argument is better at accusing people of "nagging" when they point out the government faults? Nagging is when slums are set up in downtown..nagging is when sore losers attack beirut with their "sacred" weapons...nagging is when you don't get what you want you pay another wazeer to pull out of government so that it is toppled (a government they were actually a part of)...

Thumb jabal10452 19 April 2012, 15:13

Nagging, eh? I guess that a behavior that would be acceptable to you would be to do a May 8 as well as to set up a shanty town in the middle of town for a couple of year in a show of displeasure? You prefer that to peaceful nagging, FT? Is this how badly Hezbollah corrupted your mindset? This is not right, man.

M8 guys are advocating changing the face of lebanon to become an iranian farsi satellite, and this will never happen.
by constitution, lebanon is an ARAB country, whether you like it or not.

Thumb jabal10452 20 April 2012, 01:35

They can write 300 hundred constitutions but I know who I am. I am Lebanese. Maronite. From these mountains. My ancestors were here long before any Bedouin sat foot in this sacred land. Thus I am only lebanese no more and no less. La Arab wla ballout. You want to be an Arab? Be my guest, that's your trip.. Just don't call me someone I'm not.

Thumb kesrweneh 20 April 2012, 15:39

beeeerk us ARABs? man how disgusting can that be!! you mean I have to play with my toes in public, hump camels, and live in tents, and brag about lack of history and achievements in all fields?? man we're phoenicians that got invaded by barbarians called arabs

Thumb jabal10452 21 April 2012, 01:03

OMG check it out: Kesrweneh and I agree on something ;-)

Thumb jabal10452 21 April 2012, 01:07

On a serious note Kesrweneh, I espect Arab culture and history. I'm just not one of them. I hope that they can respect this.
