Syria's main opposition group on Thursday called for an emergency U.N. Security Council meeting as it accused regime forces of killing more than 100 people in the central city of Hama in recent days.

"We are calling for an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council so that it can issue a resolution to protect civilians in Syria," the Syrian National Council said in a statement.

"Hama in recent days, and following a visit by U.N. observers, witnessed a series of crimes... that left more than 100 people dead and hundreds wounded because of heavy shelling.

"The city also witnessed summary executions, raids, arrests and the flight of residents," the exile group added.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based monitoring group, said at least 12 people were killed in shelling on a working-class neighborhood of Hama on Wednesday, but some activists on the ground put the death toll at 68, including 16 children.

At least 31 people were killed during shelling of a different neighborhood on Monday.

According to the Damascus-based Syrian League for Human Rights, nine activists were also "summarily executed" by regime forces on Monday, a day after they met U.N. observers overseeing a fragile ceasefire that went into effect April 12.

The ceasefire brokered by U.N.-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan has failed to take hold with unrest and killings reported on a daily basis in various parts of the country.

Hezbollah supports this. Aoun supports this. They form the "majority" government of Mikati. And he goes around to Australia and Europe and is visited by dignitaries who complement this government on its "neutrality" and staying out of the Syrian civil war. When Hezbollah stops sending military support; when the ISF stops rounding up Syrian Opposition members and returning them to their executioners in Syria; when the government defends its border against Syrian aggression across the borders; when Aoun ceases being a cheerleader for the murderous rampage, then the complements would be due.

But please, Mikati and the rest should stop speculating on the terrible condition Lebanon would be facing if M14 were in power and meddling in the civil war next door. For M14 that meddling pure speculation; For M8 it is unrefuted fact.

"assad has got to tell us all of M14's dirty secrets"

and not M8 dirty secrets? M8 are still taking orders from him that is the difference between the 2 sides...

you praise aoun from changing his ideas saying he has evolved and only stupid people don t change, what about M14 who now are against assad s syria? by the way your aoun puppet always said in exile that no good can ever come to lebanon till the assad s family is ruling syria, strange how now he loves him!!!!

and you criticize those who do what aoun said should be done before??? you are soooo funny!

oh, and there are members of hezb helping shabbiha..many testimonies attest that fact! from normal citizens to ex baath leaders who defected...
