The government’s ability to allow Lebanese expatriates to vote in the 2013 parliamentary elections is being questioned despite approving a mechanism proposed by Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour.

A ministerial source told the Kuwaiti al-Anbaa newspaper that the cabinet is not ready to accomplish the necessary steps that would allow the expats to vote.

“The Interior Ministry and the Foreign Ministry didn’t complete the measures necessary to do such a step,” the source said.

The cabinet approved in April the mechanism that would allow the expats to vote in the 2013 polls.

Mansour said that the estimated number of Lebanese living abroad, who registered to vote, is around 4,900 out of 608,286 people.

Prime Minister Najib Miqati urged expats last month to register at embassies and consulates in order to be able to vote in the elections.

kesrweneh how do you know that expats are already registering??? do you have any proof of that? where did they publish what is needed to register? (paperwork)?

didn't you read the article!! already 4000 expats are registered (among which are my brother and 2 of my cousins, sorry to dissapoint you)

which represents 0.8%... the gvt clearly doesn t want to encourage people to register because expat votes would mean a great change in the tribal electoral system we have!
the expats were given the right to vote in 2008...and who always blocked the expats to vote abroad? amal ministers...!!! M8 allies no?

4 years and still nothing as usual... just talks to shut the mouths of people to make them believe the gvt is doing something!

Mansour is doing Berri and M8 bidding … M8 is scared to death from letting the expats vote.

it is a fact the shia are to lose a lot if the expats can vote, thus they are doing whatever they can to stop this.
