Army Sends Reinforcements to Northern Border, Deployment to Take 7-10 Days
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةThe Lebanese army on Tuesday began sending troop reinforcements to the northern border with strife-torn Syria after deadly attacks in the region, an army spokesman told Agence France Presse.
"Yes, we have started to reinforce our troops, and the operation will take us a week to 10 days to complete," the spokesman said on condition of anonymity.
The cabinet decided on Monday evening to dispatch army reinforcements to the border area in the north, after a series of frontier incidents in recent months, some of them deadly.
Syrian troops and armed men traded gunfire overnight in the border area and shells fell inside Lebanon, wounding civilians, the army said earlier.
The official Syrian news agency SANA confirmed the violence and said on Tuesday that troops foiled attempts by "armed terrorist groups" to infiltrate the border from Lebanon during the night.
The latest incident took place two days after clashes and blasts killed two people in the area.
France on Tuesday condemned Syrian shelling of areas of northern Lebanon and said it backed Lebanese plans to boost its military presence along the border.
"We support the decision of the Lebanese cabinet to strengthen the presence of the Lebanese armed forces at the border, to guarantee the security of Lebanon's territory and its people," French foreign ministry spokesman Bernard Valero said.
"France calls on Syria to strictly respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon, in conformity with United Nations resolutions," he added.
Ya ma3tar ya Lebanese army...running around the country like a headless chicken wou ma 7ada ma3bbaro!
HOLD ON....Am I dreaming or is this the first time FT acknowledges the Lebanese army WITHOUT preaching his beloved HA? Nice going FT on your post :-)
lets see, the same people who are saying may god save and protect the army are the same people who said that the army attacking the nahir el barid was a red line. these illiterates can never make up their minds... hmmm

wow is that true? as we see all over the news, the many thousands of FSA fighters fighting with their own weapons, and it is the terrorists sneaking across lebanese border who are supplying them with the heavy weapons? sad that not one iraqi civilians has been killed by the syrian army across the border... they wont dare to do so... but they do across lebanon because of the hizbullah lead and controlled government... wa nokta ba3ed al sutor...
does the kizaab hasan nisrallah consider the innocent civilians being killed the the syrian border as martyrs? or do they have to be shiaa? he only releases DVDs of his speeches on shiaa holidays....
the continued killing of lebanese at the syrian border and the continued invasion of lebanese sovereignty is a direct result of the lebanese cabinet's decision to stay out of the syrian quagmire.... as if you support the regime or we start war... and the cabinet shuts its mouth as that would infringe upon their(mobsters such as berri and aoun) dignity..
Hi guys I know it's not the right place to ask but you might help me. I wanted to visit Lebanon this summer but the news aren't very positive. In regard of the actual events do you see any danger to come to Lebanon ?
OK ulpianus.....a conditioned sheep ok? Obviously you are not familiar with FT and his constant derogatory posts. :-)
This is the perfect time to invade syria and submit this weak syrian army. We can control all of syria.....but unfortunately we have a syrian army brigade in the south headquartered in dirty dahye (lebanons toilet) that will fight against the Lebanese.
only arabs would take so long to defend themselves while their "brothers" slaughter them
I feel bad for the army or what so called army. Army with no arms, with no clear direction, with no support of its government, illegal armed militia more powerful (HA), with no clear leadership, with no political support. Basically its there just for the sake of being there. Poor army, really feel sorry for them. May God protect them to where they are going, since their lives are worthless to most of our corrupt politicians and government.
7-10 days for deployment? By then, all civilians will be dead... thank God we're not at war, or else, our efficient army would take 2 months to deploy.
Tyrian: do you enjoy labelling people? Hayda catholic, hayda shi3e, hada durze etc... that's an old reflex that dates back to the civil war. lebanese shouldn't be labelled according to their religion.
