Hizbullah, FPM Chemistry Lost amid Efforts to Bring Nasrallah, Aoun Together

The “chemistry” between Hizbullah and the Free Patriotic Movement began dissipating over their differences on the status of Electricite du Liban’s contract workers, al-Joumhouria daily reported on Tuesday.

The newspaper said however that Hizbullah is exerting strong efforts to consolidate their ties out of its keenness on the government and to prevent its collapse.

The party’s envoys are seeking to set the stage for a meeting between Hizbullah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and FPM chief Michel Aoun to resolve the “crisis of trust” between the two sides, according to al-Joumhouria.

EDL’s contract workers have been staging a strike for the past three months to demand their full-time employment and the payment of their salaries.

Although the parliament approved their employment, Christian parties, including the FPM and Energy Minister Jebran Bassil, who is Aoun’s son-in-law, resented it for creating a sectarian imbalance.

Hizbullah sources expressed surprise at the FPM’s criticism of the party as long as the essential problem is with Speaker Nabih Berri for helping facilitate the employment of the workers who support the speaker.

What a stupid comment; the two groups will split regardless of whether they come from 'completely different cultures...and backgrounds.' It's all about interests; why else do you think parties align with others?

@geha: They do answer to the Syrian regime as you stated and since that regime is now teetering and on the verge of collapse so is the FPM/HA relationship in my opinion. Their people are too different to really maintain a long time relationship and it appears to me that Aoun is finally really believing that Assad is on his last leg. May turn out to be wishful thinking though that remains my take on the events.

agree, but Aoun is going to discover that HA weapons will act against him too if he does not behave :) as well they will not support him in the upcoming elections :)
so my bet is they will cave in: they dug their own grave and they cannot get out of it.
