Syrians Flock to Lebanon after Damascus Bombing to Flee Their Country’s Unrest

The flow of Syrians flocking to Lebanon to escape their country’s unrest increased in light of Wednesday’s Damascus bombing that claimed the lives of three top security officials, reported the Central News Agency on Thursday.

Security sources told the news agency that the new wave of refugees includes several Lebanese students who were studying at the University of Damascus.

A spike in women and children refugees has also been noted, they added.

Several of the Syrians chose to head to southern Lebanon, especially the regions of Tyre, al-Zahrani, Bint Jbeil, and al-Nabatiyeh.

The sources said that some 400 refugees have sought refuge at residences of relatives living in Lebanon.

Lebanese party members who toured the regions of the South where the Syrians sought refuge have provided them with blankets, mattresses, and food.

Other refugees spent the night outdoors as they had no place to stay, continued the sources.

Lebanese students, affiliated with pro-Syrian regime parties, who returned to their country reportedly received threats from “masked forces” advising them against returning to Syria “otherwise they may face an unknown fate,” said the security sources.

The students described the situation in Damascus as “unbearable”, saying that they may be forced to enroll at Lebanese universities to continue their studies.

Syrian Defense Minister General Daoud Rajha, Syrian President Bashar Assad's brother-in-law Assef Shawkat, and General Hassan Turkmani, head of the regime's crisis cell on the Syrian uprising were killed in the Damascus bombing against the National Security building.

Welcome Syrian friends. Your country will be free soon.

Those heading to the south are alawites fleeing from the opposition. They dont want syria to be free, i mean of course at the hands of the opposition forces that they consider 2erhebiyyin.

Who knows of a device that allows one to determine their religion? Has there been such a device that the nazi's inventented that has only been re-discovered by our "brethren", the Syrian revolutionaries?

I know this because the muslims dont flee to sour and nabatiyyeh which to them is another shabbi7a infested place. They flee to Tripoli, akkar, beirut and Muslim towns in the east. Likewise alawites, dont flee to muslim areas in lebanon which to them are FSA places, they go to shiite areas where they feel more at home. Common logic. How many alawites do you think went to wadi khaled? After, the latest fighting, alawites started fleeing, before it was almost only muslims therefor it only makes sence that the latest round of refugees ended up in the south which previously didnt have syrian refugees.

Your deductions are logical but civilians should be spared regardless of their sect. Unless they aren't civilians...

It has absolutely nothing to do with what you think akkari families will or will not do. It has to do with how people reason. In the north syrian muslims fleeing bashars army and shabbi7a reside, it would make no sence that an alawi would go there when fleeing the opposition. Likewise a muslim fleeing the shabbi7a wouldnt seek refuge in jabal mohsen!

And you are 100% wrong when claiming nobody in lebanon would ask a fleeing family chou deenak. It would be the first thing they ask whether in the north, south or center. That statement must have been a joke.

primesuspect, if your definition of freedom is where there is a civil war with minorities being exterminated in the name of some idiotic, fundamentalist sect of a religion that has no qualms about killing and persecuting any who do not think like them, then you've got a funny way of looking at things.

We show the Palestinian refugees our Lebanese hospitality and they destroy our country. Well the Syrians destroyed our country before even showing them our hospitality. We really cannot afford them in Lebanon whether they are Alawit or Sunnis or Budhists. We need to think about one thing. THE INTEREST OF LEBANON COMES FIRST! we don't want the war of others to spread in Lebanon. I wonder why some of you are happy of the destruction of one party over the other. All Syrians are continuous threat to Lebanon. Enough relying on one party or over others in Syria. They all work for the interest of Syria. DO NOT TRUST ANY OF THEM!

there is a place for the refugees in the lebanese prisons....we cater for them all just as they were so generous to us...and as for the pro syrian students they must be very upset now that they have to enroll in lebanese universities.....lol

Moslem 88. this mansour character doesnt represent christians. he is probably immature kid with pimples and a keyboard. christians welcome all refugees. As long as they abide by the law and return when their war finishes. This is even written in our religion.
