Aoun: Request for Telecom Data is Blackmail

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun accused on Tuesday the March 14 camp of seeking to ruin Lebanon over their request of the complete telecommunications data in various assassination attempts.

He said after the Change and Reform bloc’s weekly meeting: “They are blackmailing us by demanding that obtaining the telecom data be a main condition for participating in the national dialogue.”

“The complete data cannot be handed over if the request is illegal and infringes on people’s rights,” he added.

“The telecom data is not a joke. It can only be handed over in case a crime has been committed,” Aoun explained.

“Anything other than that would be considered blackmail. They want to ruin the national dialogue table,” declared the FPM leader.

“They want to ruin the country if they believe that the data does not harm the people’s rights,” he stressed.

The March 14 camp announced on Monday its boycott of the national dialogue session that was set for Tuesday.

It explained that it will not attend the all-party talks over the failure to hand over the telecom data and the failure to discuss Hizbullah’s arms and Palestinian possesses of weapons inside and outside refugee camps.

The session was postponed to August 16.

Cukoo...cukoo....it is Tuesday again. Hey Aoun....I thought the war in Syria would be over many Tuesday's ago. Looks like your false dreams are sinking with the ship of ASSad.

“The telecom data is not a joke. It can only be handed over in case a crime has been committed,” Aoun explained.

So attempted murder is not a crime? Only actual murder is?

How could you insult the intelligence of your public and get away with it, Mr Aoun?

Missing rudy 24 July 2012, 18:58

a public that is fascinating honestly. i think they should be chosen for a study on how adept the human brain is at doing the most twisted mental loops to distort reality and keep you in your "safe zone"

Default-user-icon wahad (Guest) 24 July 2012, 19:59

jabal 10452 i do not know if you are aware of what will happen: when all data is accessible without proper legal permission, it means that ANYONE can bribe an officer to obtain personal communication data on anyone and blackmail him or her..that includes you..imagine tomorrow your boss decides to snoop into your personal conversations...how would you feel about that?

Default-user-icon Constantine (Guest) 24 July 2012, 18:02

Telecom data is one of the most crucial element in privacy in all of the first world countries. Privacy is the most essential tool a citizen can have against government infringment in their personal lives. in the US, Canada, Britian, etc...telecom data is forbidden to be handed to security agencies unless they get court approved permits to only release specific info. SOME LEBS ARE JUST TOO IGNORANT AND DO NOT SEE BEYOND THE TIP OF THEIR NOSE

It's "blackmail" only if you are guilty. Otherwise, the request for telcom data following an attempts assignation where the data contains information potentially as to the identity of the perpetrators is called a "criminal investigation". M14 is completely within it's right to wish to know if interlocutors at the "dialogue Table" have a not so secret desire to kill them.

Thumb Bandoul 24 July 2012, 21:02

@M14, let me clarify it for you once and for all: the Party of God will never, ever, and forever, voluntarily give up their weapon of terror and intimidation. That is the reality of it people and that is what you have to work with. That said, M14, should never, ever, and forever, voluntarily negotiate with terrorist on any single given issue. Let everything these thugs extort from m14 be at gunpoint, this way you keep your honor and love for your country above and before all else.

I understand you my brother, what else can you comment here? defend your boss who is basically saying "we will do anything to protect the killers"? of course you cant do that, ur better than that.

Whenever that sad day comes I urge every patriotic Lebanese citizen to attend the funeral and the public viewing that a statesman such as Aoun deserves.
Of course my fellow patriotic Lebanese citizens don't forget to bring a pin with you, which you will stick in the cadaver to make sure it's dead.

Missing rudy 24 July 2012, 18:57

have you heard of "attempted murder", yeh that's a crime too

Default-user-icon wahad (Guest) 24 July 2012, 20:04

"attempted murder" and "committing a crime" are the same in legal language Rudy...so in an attempted murder the judge has the right to retrieve the telecom data concerned with the suspects ONLY...what M14 are asking: they want ALL data of EVERYONE be available...that violates YOUR OWN privacy

Default-user-icon Maxx (Guest) 24 July 2012, 20:01

Next time that there's an attempt on Aoun's life - though not like I would trust any M14 factions to have so much boldness - I would like to hear him remain as consistent and unhypocritical. Unfortunately, so far, there hasn't yet been a law against hypocrisy-by-a-politician drafted into the Lebanese judicial system...

I am sure you sstill support this traitor even after such a comment :)
this is what traitors do: they cover for each other.

Thumb geha 25 July 2012, 07:39

so you traitor are saying it is OK for hizbushaitan and their followers to have this data on a continuous basis, but not the official Lebanese ISF?
you dare consider the Lebanese ISF as israelis?
this is worse than not supporting the Lebanese army! and you guys try to fool Lebanese saying you support the government :)
you are traitors and murderors doing anything possible to hide your actions.
but I have news to you: truth will eventually catch up with you....

Missing samiam 25 July 2012, 10:33

So why is it in other countries which have signifantly more freedoms than here is that information readily available and doesn't need a minister to sign off on it? It is really simple--the groups that have something to hide are the ones who don't want the information available.

Default-user-icon ramzi (Guest) 25 July 2012, 11:15

FT Ive seen u on here so many times. It seems there is no reason to what you say, which in turn translates to who u follow. Its so sad u cant even have a real debate, its just cussing and badgering. It makes me sad our country is goin nowhere. If I may politely ask you, Isnt attempted murder a crime? Dont people from a diffrent point of view have a right to express themselves? Please do not cuss or say nonsense, give me some hope we can even talk to u people, we are all lebanese.

Thumb lebanon_first 24 July 2012, 21:01

Mr. bassil, why are you addressing the inhabitants of Ashrafieh? They have north of 21 hours of power per day. That is waaaaay more than most Lebanese.

Thumb Bandoul 24 July 2012, 21:04

Previously posted but relevant to this idiotic lecture from depraved lunatic:

Folks who continue to steer the debate away from the weapons of terror in the hands of the Party of God, think they are so clever pointing out we are allied with the west and proud of it. The difference between us is that even when we are in power/government we can't implement our political agenda for fear of death at the hand of the Party while in stark contrast, the Party does what it wants, when it wants and at gunpoint when needed. Ya 3eib on the people who cannot admit that they are forcing us against our will at gunpoint. Shmato finna la2ilkon ya oranges lah, laka yawm ya zalem. Your day will come…eventually.

Now the Lebanese people have rights? What rights are you talking about?

Thumb jabal10452 24 July 2012, 22:16

FT what's your take on this?

Thumb jabal10452 24 July 2012, 23:59

FT, I don't agree with your statement. M14 wants all data THAT IS PERTINENT TO THE CASE to be handed over to the investigation. M14 has never asked for the indiscriminate submission of all data. What the government is making available is simply bits and pieces that lead to nowhere because the investigators cannot identify significant pattens of traffic. Look I know telecom and what's being made available is a thinly veiled obstruction of justice.

Thumb jabal10452 25 July 2012, 00:05

Besides, FT, Aoun just said it: he agrees to the hand over of more data only if a crime has been committed. This is an indirect admission that not enough data is being handed over on purpose, and it also means one of two things:

1. The General does not seem to be aware that attempted murder is a major felony.
2. The General is really indirectly telling us that no attempted murder has ever occurred, that Harb is making this up.

Missing sergio 25 July 2012, 00:31

Ft you are talking about people's freedom & rights in the west where people have way more rights when there is an attempted murder police can request any info on anyone & they get it. it does not infringe people's right. In Lebanon people's right is violated daily 24 / 7 by HA that is ok for you because you follow them.
