Prime Minister Najib Miqati expressed on Saturday his full support for the Lebanese army and security forces to preserve stability and prevent security chaos in the country.

“The measures taken by the army should be a lesson to all those who attempt to offend Lebanon’s security and the Lebanese,” Miqati said.

The army confirmed on Friday media reports that it arrested several people in al-Rowais following a string of kidnappings by members of al-Meqdad clan.

"A number of wanted persons have been arrested and others are being pursued in different regions of Lebanon in order to arrest them and work for the release of all the kidnapping victims," said a statement about the Friday night operation.

It added that a number of weapons, as well as ammunition and military equipment, were confiscated during the raids in the area.

The clan has claimed responsibility for the abduction of more than 20 Syrians and a Turkish national in Lebanon.

Miqati pointed out that the state will not accept any attempt to violate stability and any abuse against the Lebanese and foreigners on its territories.

“We will prevent any attempts that undermine the state and law,” the premier noted.

He stated that “the security chaos that happened recently is rejected.”

Miqati urged officials to exert efforts for the safe release of the Lebanese kidnapped in Syria.
