Report: Miqati Says March 14 Statement Does Not Serve Efforts to Reach Calm
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةPrime Minister Najib Miqati reportedly criticized the March 14 camp's statement that was issued on Tuesday announcing its boycott of government activity, saying that national matters cannot be tackled “impulsively,” reported As Safir newspaper on Wednesday.
His circles told the daily: “The statement does not serve efforts to reach calm in Lebanon.”
The premier had earlier told his visitors on Tuesday that national affairs cannot be tackled through arrogance.
He stressed the need for all sides to assume their responsibilities “because the current situation requires it.”
“The country cannot be left in a vacuum that can lead to chaos,” added Miqati.
“All leaderships should return to the national dialogue instead of resorting to negativity and boycotts,” he stated before his visitors.
The March 14 forces on Tuesday declared a “total boycott” of Miqati's government, calling for a “neutral, salvation government that endorses the Baabda Declaration as its ministerial Policy Statement.”
“We will not tolerate that our rejection of the dangerous situation be depicted as a battle to return to power or to the premiership,” the March camp said in a statement issued after a broad meeting for its leaders at the Center House in downtown Beirut.
The Baabda Declaration was reached during the first national dialogue session that was held in June after a 19-month absence.
The Declaration, issued on June 11, calls for political and media calm in Lebanon, supporting the army, and keeping Lebanon away from regional and international disputes.
March 14 sources meanwhile told As Safir that the Center House meeting will pave the way for a political confrontation with the government and “its internal and regional sponsors.”
“Ignoring its content will lead to severe consequences on Lebanon,” they added.
“Miqati and his allies' insistence on preserving the government and their unilateral actions will lead to complete paralysis in Lebanon and harm other sensitive balances in the country,” they remarked.
The sources revealed that tangible measures will be taken gradually to pressure the government, adding that the March 14 camp is determined “to wage the political battle against the cabinet and its protectors until the end should its demand for the formation of a salvation government be ignored.”
Stupid comments from a power hungry mikati.
he tlks about arrogance and the only arrogance I see is his arrogance and that of hizbushaitan who continuously refuse to discuss their weapons driving to country to bankruptcy and war to serve their syro/iranian masters.
Does it serve calm to kill m14 one by one?
does it serve calm not to issue an indictment on samaha and mamlouk?
does it serve calm not to deliver the accused in Harb attempt?
does it serve calm not to deliver the wanted four by the international tribunal?
.....
please have the decency to leave.
He has no decency... Power corrupts... he is now in bed with Hizbollah and his brother Taha is now pulling all the strings... Taha is in bed with the Syrian regime and runs the Serail... The PM is just the frontman... The Mikati brothers are here to stay... if they can...
what is serving calm to you? approve what M8 and you say , that s all? having different point of views is what democracy protects, no? do you find it strange that the opposition may differ from your point of view? didn t M8 have a different opinion when they were in the opposition? was blocking the parliament and paralyzing institutions serving calm at that time?
lol....
M14 needs a pretext, just like M8 when they toppled hariris gvt, to try and take over the gvt before the legal elections. they found the assassination a good one.
but you cannot say there is calm in the country! every thing is on the verge of exloding. M8 plays on its double standards which exaperates people. they do not take the necessary measures in the north to stop smuggling from both sides, syria bombs lebanon they say nothing, refugees live in bad conditions and they do nothing to help them on a humanitarian basis, they want to disarm all factions in tripoli, which is rather M14, but don t talk of the rest of lebanon and forgot about the palestinian camps afraid to anger hezbis...
the economy is getting bad while it was in growth before despite the crisis in the world... the army catches a guy in dahiye coz hezbi let them but refuse it to arrest the 4 wanted by STL...
no wonder the situation is tense...
Miqati self delusional as usual; selling Lebanon’s freedom and dignity. Finally some guts from M14but M14 must present a real plan for the new government’s first 100 days; a political, economic, social, environmental vision and practical steps consistent with the aspirations of the Cedar Revolution and designed to bring Lebanon to the 21st century, curb corruption and political mafia, restrict political influence peddling by a modern and unbiased appointment system, modernize government institutions for transparency and accountability, create balanced development program for all regions emphasizing deprived areas, insure liberties and civil rights, streamline permitting and business operations, build a monorail from Tripoli to Tyr, create mini-silicone valleys, sign technical exchange obligations with exporting countries obligating production of percent of import locally, subsidize clean energy, and gradual steps to move away from subsidy and welfare into workfare and training.
Part II-The biggest dangers facing Lebanon are HizbIran’s militia and arms, Aoun political mafia and cronyism, and M8/M14 sectarian outlook. Lebanon will be saved when Shia, Christians and Druze realize Hizb, Aoun and Jumblatt are taking them to the abyss by believing in Faustian protection rather than democracy to protect and prosper their communities; when Lebanese realize our diversity is our strongest asset desperately needed in the region; and when truly democratic people join to form a critical mass in next elections so people elect programs instead of individuals.
lebanon will be saved the day all those who participated in the civil war stop doing politics. lebanon will be saved the day secularism is ensured. lebanon will be saved the day people stop being sheep to a leader only because he shares the same religion. lebanon will be saved the day religious people stop meddling into politics.
so far, lebanon is far from being saved. neither M14 nor M8 are willing to abandon their privileges and tribal powers!
but M14 remains the best out of the two evils....
i agree with Gebran-sons and peace wish we could rally people around projects and not specific people, because at the end of the day they come and go but their work and projects for our beloved country will stay.
Kaa Kaa Karim commenting for a FREE LEBANON? LMAO! You don't know the meaning of freedom you conditioned regressed Farsi! Freedom to you is bowing and obeying to religious fanatic preachers who tell you how to live, breath and eat. Maybe one day you will thaw from the ice age.
