Suleiman Condemns Israel's Gaza Aggression, Says it Doesn't Contribute to Democracy
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةPresident Michel Suleiman reiterated on Thursday calls for international pressure on Israel to engage in peace talks with Palestinians, saying war does not contribute to democracy in the region.
In a statement issued by Baabda palace, Suleiman condemned the “barbarous aggression launched on the Gaza (Strip) by Israel, which only uses the language of killing and destruction.”
“The policy of war and terror has never brought a just and comprehensive peace and would never contribute to the aspired democracy in peace negotiations,” he said.
Suleiman reiterated his call for the international community to pressure Israeli officials in engaging in the peace talks.
“The policy of aggression proved to be useless and it is about time for the enemy to realize that and sit at the negotiating table if it was truly willing (to reach) peace,” he said in the statement.
Israel launched a bruising air, naval and artillery offensive on the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, the most intense assault on the Palestinian territory in four years.
The operation was launched with the assassination of Hamas' top military commander, followed by an onslaught of airstrikes and shelling by tanks and naval gunboats.
On the occasion of the Islamic New Year, Suleiman hoped in his statement for more peace, security and stability in the coming days.
Fakhamto, look at the bright side, as long as they are hitting Gaza, they will leave Lebanon alone.
fakhamto knows that natanyaho is trying to help bashar, that's why he is talking about democracy.isn't bashar hafez el assad who said that all the region will be on fire if his regime goes?his buddy natanyaho is helping him..and very soon america /iran will begin their negotiations.
Its not our affair. Sulieman should stay out of it. This is Israeli - Palestinian. Israel sits on Gaza's neck and though it withdrew from the territory, it keeps the place like a virtual prison. Well, every so often, the prisoners revolt and throw rockets into Israel, which itself is a violation of law and an incitement to retaliation, and so now the Israelis will have their retaliation.
But where does this tit for tat all start?? It starts with Israeli insecurity and the need to keep Gaza as an Israeli prison. And why do Israelis fear Palestinians in Gaza, because they do not know them and that of which we are ignorant, we fear and that which we fear we hate and that which we hate, we kill.
The cycle of violence ends when Palestinians and Israelis come to know one another and what they will find is that one is like the other in more ways than they are different.
Thank you for saying it out loud! If we had 10% of people like you in the middle east, it would be a better place...
"The cycle of violence ends when Palestinians and Israelis come to know one another and what they will find is that one is like the other in more ways than they are different."
Couldn't agree with you more. Unfortunately Hamas have said that they will never accept the existance of Israel, Abu Mazen has refused for over two years to sit down with Israel, so how can they go forward?
Why isn't Lebanon interfering in the gaza issue? Are we bala damir? why aren't we bombing israel? Hassoun has enough weapons. Why doesnt he seize this opportunity to bomb israel (and destroy lebanon)? We are ready to offer Lebanon on the sacrifice altar even though no arab moved a finger in 2006 for us. It is ok that palestinians killed thousands of lebanese in the civil war. That is not important. Let us now move the war from gaza to lebanon. Send your teleguided planes hassouna, and your beloved missiles over Israel. Screw Lebanon. Deploy your killer toys. What the other Lebanese think is not important. Just bring war to us. That is what you like.
I wonder what if some no name "resisting" group popped up today and started lobbing rockets at the Zionist entity from South Lebanon what would M8's response be? Would Groundhog hassin come out of his hole electronically via close circuit TV and applaud his fellow Jihadist entrepreneurial rocket throwers even if Israel proceeds to destroy Lebanon or would he condemn then because they acted alone?
We already know what M14's response would be it's the standard "the decision of war should be taken by the state and only by the state"
HAMAS operating out of Gaza with their rocket launchers will never defeat Israel. This is not even in the cards.
The most HAMAS can do is to goad Israel into retaliatory strikes and then win the world's sympathy in a political victory over Israel. No one can touch Israel militarily.
As this story is being reported, one never sees the part of the story where HAMAS has been throwing rockets on Israel for several weeks with impunity. Well now, it has gotten to the point where the Israel Government, as it does from time to time, must weight the cost of retaliation that it will take in world wide public opinion, against leaving its people exposed to HAMAS rocket fire.
The benefits of retaliation have tipped the costs of world condemnation and Israel has acted, or over reacted as the case may be.
Its still better to negotiate from a position of military strength, than to have to actually use the military to win the issue.
Mr President, You stay out of it and worry about our 25 assassinations not to reach 26 in the Country that you control, that's worse than aggression
