Egypt PM Says Cairo to Intensify Truce Efforts to Halt Israeli Aggression

Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Qandil vowed Friday to intensify Cairo's efforts to secure a truce and end Israel's "aggression" in the Gaza Strip.
"Egypt will not hesitate to intensify its efforts and make sacrifices to stop this aggression and achieve a lasting truce," he said at a press conference in Gaza City's Shifa hospital after seeing some victims from the latest Israeli strike.
Qandil crossed into Gaza before midday through the only border post with Egypt, heavily guarded by Egyptian security personnel wearing flak jackets and carrying assault rifles.
He was greeted by Gaza's Hamas prime minister, Ismail Haniya , who ventured out in public for the first time since Israel launched the offensive Wednesday by assassinating the militant group's military commander.
Egypt said Qandil's three-hour visit Friday was meant as a show of solidarity with the Palestinian territory's Hamas rulers.

During his 3 hour visit 21 missiles we fired at Israel, nothing was fired from Israel as they respected the visit.

what a big difference time makes...in gaza war 2008,moubarak closed rafah crossing during the war forbidding even wounded to cross....now the foreign minister of egypt visited shifa hospital...so time is not working for the sionists in occupied palestine..anyway,u cannot steal the land for ever...it is only 65 years perhaps another 4/8 years ...the beginning of the end.

1. Exactly what part of Gaza is "occupied"?
2. When exactly did Israel occupy Palestinian land. Palestine has never existed, it was made up by Arafat in the 1980's, and they have constantly refused to sit down at peace talks with Israel ever since then.
3. Decades of deprivation and desperation. Are you talking about the time that the area was occupied by Jordan and Egypt between 1948- 1967.
4. The reason that there were so few Israeli casualities is simple. They have shelters. The Gazans don't because Hamas prefers to spend its money on weapons instead of the welfare of its population.

Don't blame it on the Israelis but on the Palestinians. They are incapable of recognizing that they have lost against the Israelis and accepting a peaceful solution. They want to keep on fighting until victory comes even if it can take hundreds of years.
When Finnish, Polish made peace with Russia they had lost substantial areas of their territory. Why can't the Palestinian accept the same. The issue in my opinion is the Supremacist culture of Islam and Arabs. Islam can only accept to win or make war. Look back at the history of Arabs and Islam.

Now why would you want to make that experiment? Because the hostility you provoke is the whole point. Now under attack you can cast yourself as the victim, and call out the helicopter gunships and the F16 attack fighters and the heavy tanks and the guided missiles, and destroy yet more of the pathetic remains of infrastructure that the Palestinian state still has left. And then you can point to it as a hopeless case, unfit to govern itself, a terrorist state, a state with which you couldn't possibly reach an accommodation. And then you can carry on with business as usual, quietly stealing their homeland.

Before you write you should go and see the water pipelines from Israel into Gaza, you should see the electricity pylons carry current from Israel to Gaza, you should see the hundreds of lorries carrying food from Israel to Gaza, and then go to the Israeli hospitals to see Palestiniam patients being treated.
All this I have seen on television here in the west, just like you could probably do.
Unfortunately, I have not seen the same services being provided by Egypt, but on that you are silent. I wonder why?

Well said John. From a human perspective I think that's hard to disagree with. I think for this very reason is why they caught Obama and re former French PM calling Nentenyahu an asshole. Hopefully, the Level headed leaders can overcome the strong Jewish lobby to force Israel to stop. It's like the adopted red headed child of the west.

I agree with most of what you say, except for the fact that should/when peace occurs between the Palestinians led by Abu Mazen and Israel, the economic situation of all the people in the West Bank can only improve.
Hamas is not interested in the people of the Gaza Strip, otherwise they would have spent the $400 million they received from Qatar on purchasing food, medical supplies etc for the population instead of buying rockets.

No my dear you are completely wrong. The only way to halt war is to make peace. Israel has offered many times to make peace with Lebanon. It has succeded with Egypt and Jordan. With Lebanon we could have had a peace deal in 1983 but Assad forced the Lebanese to cancel this deal.
Barak in Taba offered a great deal for Arafat, East Jerusalem, 98% of west bank and 2% compensation in the Negev. Yet Arafat refused.

The middle east cancer is not Israel. It is the Arabs and Islam incapacity of adapting to a modern changing world where democracy, liberty of speech, justice and critical minds dominates.
Where ever Arabs and Islam left a heritage in the world there are currently problems, fighting, miseries, and tyranny. The problem is in the fundamentalist interpretation of Islam where the rules of Islam are imposed on people with force. Look back in history.
Whether Israel is here or not, the problems will stay. In fact it could be a chance for the middle east if we manage to find a peaceful solution and work hand in hand with the Israelis as they have a modern and very advance society.
